The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Well...I wonder if the fact that I had bags of frozen veggie CRAMMED around that little fan at the bottom caused this problem?

Something similar to this happened to me, although I only had a slight thaw happen in my freezer. I had a ton of stuff packed around my fan. When I cleared the area in front of it, I had no more problems with it. I don't know whether it was a thermostat issue, or if it was just that the cold air didn't circulate enough to keep everything in the freezer frozen.

Don't know if that helps any, but I thought I'd share...I sure hope whatever it is is an easy fix!!

Well, Steve did come home and look at it...he told me I had to clean it out first because it stunk too bad to work in it. (It was about to make him sick and it wasn't really bothering me.) So I had him bend the tabs on the shelves up so I could pull them out, right? Well, the bottom shelf caught on the panel in the back that was leaking into the floor of the freezer and I could peer down behind the panel just a bit to see that it was FULL of ice. So I hollered at Steve and he helped me remove the bottom shelf and swing that panel around. I pulled out hugh chunks of ice. That didn't seem right.

After I got all the ice out, I noted what looked to be a drain that twern't draining. I tried pouring hot water down it and it just poured down into the floor of freezer. So I looked underneath and sure enough, there was a pipe that led down to the drain tray. The drain tray never needs to be emptied, from what I understand...it's just there to collect the condensation from the defrost cycle.

So I deduced that the drain wasn't draining, the water was backing up and freezing and causing the problems.

So I took that drain pipe off and ran my whistle brush down it and got a bunch of yuck out, then sanitized it with clorox. Put it all back together, checked to make sure it drained, wiped down the inside with a Pinesol solution and plugged her back in.

I'm cautiously optimistic...it sounds good. I'm just hoping it didn't screw something up permanently.

Funny part was there was a mouse up under there...been there a while...mummy-mouse, you know? Steve was just grossed out! I was cracking Monty Python parrot jokes. He was all worried...how were we ever gonna get that mouse out?? I said "Like this!" and reached in, grabbed it by it's little toe and tossed it in the trash! Then went and washed my hands. No big deal! LOL

Oh good grief 2J, I am still chuckling over the whole mummy-mouse episode.

You know, you shoulda been an engineer. I think you not only diagnosed the problem correctly, I think you also fixed it good!

Keeping my fingers crossed that was the only problem. You know, I had something sort of like that happen to me the last time I went to the store. I got home, put away all the groceries, and later, when I went to get something (chicken breast) from the freezer to cook for dinner, I noticed it was completely thawed out. Egads, I was worried. Then I noticed the fan was covered up. I took the time to rearrange everything in there, whew! That did the trick. Luckily it was only thawed from that afternoon, so no food was lost.

Goodnight thread.

She's well, thanks. At home, having seen a local doc, wearing some sort of sling and therefore gong about one-armed.

Not requiring pain meds. Neighbors pitched in to do up the lawn before I had an opportunity :)

Kind of a releif that's all the worse it is...didn't really need one more thing.
