The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Beaver Creek is ok, mostly condos. It's also close enough to Vail Mountain. During the summer, the ski lifts take hikers up. And mountain bikers. I imagine this is true of most ski resorts.

Haven't been to the others. Will look into it!

What stream flows past the roots of Old Man Willow?

Was it the Withywindle? (sp?)

No, I didn't look it up...

Here's one I saw in Silverthorne that I thought was great.

Except they don't mention internet access on there. That won't do. :-(

You sure you want a non smoking facility?

You'd be hard pressed to find anything else in Colorado.

But that just goes for indoors anyhow, right? I would think.

Dunno...

Was The Castle non-smoking?

I'm assuming that they mean no smoking inside the house.

I wouldn't want to do that anyway, with non-smokers and kids around.

Besides, I'll prolly sit outside staring at the mountains every chance I get anyway!

I'm pretty sure it was.

We bought ashtrays at the store and took them with us when we left.

Absolutely!

How else are we supposed to get ourselves to sleep with unfamiliar toasters lurking about? ;-)

Eek!! Who knows what toasters are up to when the lights are out. Especially when the bread machine is on a timer.

So the same dilemma rears its head: should you leave the toaster plugged in so it's tethered to the wall or do you unplug it so it won't have any juice?

Guess they had some issues, naming the cities for themselves.

For shame! I thought you would know that Minas Ithil was "Tower of the Moon", and Minas Anor was "Tower of the Sun". While "Isildur" and "Anarion" contain the same root stems as "ithil" and "anor", they don't mean quite the same. For instance, IIRC, the root "isil" is also used in the Quenya word for "silver".

OK, time for me to geek out (I'm geekier when I'm tired...)

Osgiliath was the capital of Gondor, while Minas Anor and Minas Ithil were the homes of Anarion and Isildur, respectively. When Minas Ithil was conquered by Mordor and became the home of the Nazgul, it was renamed Minas Morgul (Tower of Sorcery). Because of this, Osgiliath was no longer protected from the East and became a regular victim of attack; the capital of Gondor was then moved to Minas Anor, and it was renamed Minas Tirith (Tower of Guard). Osgiliath was gradually depopulated by the continuing attacks, until it was a ghost town. One of Boromir's great feats (with his brother's help, of course) before embarking on the quest of the riddle was to defeat the forces of Mordor and free Osgiliath from their control, for a time.

You should leave it unplugged at all times, except when in use.

That way, you keep its energy drained down real low.

Minimize its mischief radius! That's the key!

Hmmm....so that's why the toaster only gets halfway across the kitchen.
