The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Cheap, durable, and can be decorated to become a fashion accessory!

'Miruvor' is correct, but when you answer you have to ask a follow-up question, so as to keep me from turning into some sort of Middle-Earthian Alex Trabek.

How about I ask a question I don't know the answer to?
We all know Aragorn's father's name - Aragorn is *repeatedly* called "Aragorn son of Arathorn". But what was his mother's name?
And I may feel really stupid when the question is answered.
Especially after I've had a bit of coffee, which is finally ready.

If you do go get some, bring back a coupla extra pints, k? Ian McKellen's line from the Fellowship film sprang immediately to mind:
"Do not tempt me, Frodo!"

We all know Aragorn's father's name - Aragorn is *repeatedly* called "Aragorn son of Arathorn". But what was his mother's name? That's a very good question, and one that is covered in Appendix A. The answer is Gilraen.
Here's one back to everyone else: We know that Arwen is Galadriel's granddaughter, but can you name Galadriel's daughter who was Arwen's mother?
And here's one for Rosie: Who was Galadriel's husband?
The two questions are rather related, because the daughter was given a name reminiscent of her father's.

Heh...I was just reading up on Arwen's mother, 'cause I was going to ask YOU. So I know. Kinda cheated without meaning to, but...
Celebrian.
And Celeborn is Galadriel's (rather subdued) husband.
We like to pick on him a bit here....
How about this: what were Arwen's siblings' (brothers') names?

Ohfercryinoutloud...
Fact 1: We decided not to do the cruise. We'll save the Marriott points for Disney (or something else)
Fact 2: My neice (son of photographer step-brother) has a travel business. I asked if she could help with Marriott points. She could not, we have to do that directly through Marriott.
Fact 3: I said "okay" we'll just book it on our own (when we were still considering going).
SO....
Now my Mom calls and says neice thinks I'm mad at her because she couldn't help with Marriott points and I'm not booking a cruise with her.
Hopefully, I've now s'plained it well enough that the only way we could afford the cruise this time was by using the Marriott points.
~sigh~
I just can't get a break...maybe I should take a cruise...

I can't really blame you for picking on Celeborn. In the only speaking lines he gets in the book, he bad-mouths Gandalf then gets publicly spanked by his wife. Not hard to tell who wears the pants in
that relationship, eh?
How about this: what were Arwen's siblings' (brothers') names?
Elladan and Elrohir, twin sons of Elrond, who never forgot their mother's suffering in the orc pits of Dol Guldur.
Legolas's father, Thranduil, was king of what realm?

Yeah, I could use some too. This morning's "Red Bull" didn't go down all that well.
I just started drinking the stuff. Today it put me in the mind of bitter bubble gum.
