The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

You'll learn real history again one of these days when you're teaching kiddoes.

Feeling overwhemled - I never was very good at history...even the real stuff... Hi, Rosie. Don't be intimidated. Rather, pity us, for our brains store useless crap so we can't remember where we left our car keys.

I can't remember where I left my car keys, either.
That's recent history...I'm not good at that either! ;-)

That is one terrific story.
The more you and your sis talk about her, the more amazed I am by her.
I'm exhausted getting up and going to work every day.
But climbing Rainier? Oh man. *shakes head woefully*

when they say "Denethor, of the line of...," they say this guy's name next.Had to look it up... Hurin (with an accent mark over the "u" that I'm too lazy to go get the special character for...)
Darn it, got that one totally wrong... Mardil was the Good Steward, Meneldil was the son and heir of Anarion.

You know, that's about the first post I've seen you make about your Mom...and it's a neat story! I'm ashamed to admit I had to Google Jim Whittaker...but now I'm impressed.

She was pretty amazing. :-)
I don't think I'd have the same strength. I can't see how I could. I don't even deal well with difficult forms to fill out at the office. :-)

Actually, Mardil was the one I was looking for. "Denethor, of the line of Mardil" is the phrase they use in the third book of the trilogy.
No matter.
Question?

The guides in the picture would be Whittaker and Unsoeld who climbed Everest with Whittaker, but I don't know which is which.
To: Bear_in_RoseBear
Since I'm looking stuff up in App. A anyway, was it Azog? Yep.
Now, from Appendix A and from The Hobbit, What was laid on the breast of Thorin when he was buried under the Lonely Mountain?
That's an easy one, for anyone else who would care to play.
