This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
"I love watching dressage! The amount of training that goes into it is unimaginable. I used to think it was boring, until I watched western pleasure. It reaches new heights of boring."
I used to think so too, until I started learning dressage. Now I could watch it all day long!!!
I have a question about Western Pleasure. How do they keep the tail down like that? My riding instructor said that they cut the nerves in the tail. that sounds horrible!
I don't think you have to apologize for having a blurry picture now and then. You make up for it with all the great pictures.
How old are they before you know what color that are going to be? When do they stop changing?
Hey welcome back. We just bought some property in Harden.
Just wondering. I'm looking for Sarah Lee a "honey":')
Thanks :O) I don't have much time anymore. I really should be doing research for my fingerprint analysis project, but it is boring me. Where is Harden at? Anywhere near Houston?
It's about 30 miles south of Livingston I guess. One of those blink and you miss it towns:')
Livingston sounds familiar. I dont see it on a map though. what large city is it near?
Oh! It looks like you are across the pond from Huntsville
Who are you and do you live in North Texas? (I'm always scouting around for riding buddies. We'll find you a horse)
My name is Lynda. I live in Conroe, which is about 34 miles north of Houston. I wish I could have a riding buddy!!!
Dang it. You and Cindydawg need to move up here. I neeeeed you!
You can usually tell if they are going to be gray or roan by the time they are a couple of months old. You'll start to see white hairs as they shed their baby hair. I don't know that they ever stop changing. Roans vary so much from summer to winter and I've come to think that the amount of white hair they have is determined by the temperature at the time the hair is coming in. All my roans were darker this spring than they've ever been, I think because we had a cooler spring. They are lightening up now that it's getting warmer. This is all pure speculation on my part, to just take it for what it's worth.
We need you to move down here! LOLOL. YOu could move between Livingston and Conroe LOL.
I would really like to move down to the hill country but that's just not possible right now. 5 kids and all that.
Oh man, yea, that would be hard. Darn
I think appys that are going to roan always change too.... This POA (my friend is a tiny person) was red with a blanket when my friend bought him at 5 years old, and he's in his teens here. Only red left on him now is on his legs. He was put down about a month after this pic was taken. Colic. Was really a shame.
If this has to do with you, Cindy... I wouldn't expect you'd get a roan unless you bred to one.
What a pretty little horse. Very classy looking!
