*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

She looks like a dancer. Very athletic but "grace"ful.

I didn't mind getting tossed around when I was young... but I'd be hard pressed to start one now.

I think so. She reminds me of a grayhound, sleek and fast looking, not at all like the boys.

Yeah, we ain't spring chickens anymore. The lumps and bumps tend to hang around for a bit longer. I don't think she'd dump me on purpose, especially if I start her right, but she might booger out from under me. I did OK with her mother, but I was 10yrs younger then and a whole lot dumber. ;o)

Last night I was reading about color and that gray dominant, then bay and then chestnut. How do paints fit into this?

Mornin.
Yesterday there was an article on AOL about 40 year morgages. I thought about pinging you but the pop ups are so bad over there.

Hey , I may not be a spring chicken but I am an energizer bunny. I just keep going, and going and.... The batteries get a little banged up and drained at times but I just recharge:')

Hair, I have been looking at barn plans and some have house barns where there is a house that attaches or living quarters tacked on at the end or upstairs. You think this is practical or just a fad? I can see the convenience, esp on bad weather days but I wonder about smells, rodents, and fire hazards.

I think smells, rodents and fire hazards are all good things to wonder about! But all have solutions.

I've designed a barn with living quarters in it for my boarding stable. My idea is the barn and that place will go up first, and a house perhaps later. Mine is a small apt and would make a good office or quarters for a caretaker person later.

Good Morning everyone. Sure going to be a hot one today. My AC is still broke, and repair man won't be there until Monday. By that time, it would have cooled off. Good thing, I have ceiling fans.

In a way, it's a good thing. I would have wanted to just stay in the house after work. This way, I got on the tractor and mowed the pasture. Swamp grass and other weeds are taking over. This fall, I will have to have it sprayed and seeded. It is too wet in the spring, to get any equipment out there. The deer flies were out in force, but I sprayed and had my "do" rag on my head.

Grace is very cute. I really like her looks. That color is pretty. Do you think she will turn lighter with age? Is she the one that changed color so much since, she was foaled? Wow! 17 hands. You would have to take a step ladder on the trail..lol

Great work on the pasture mowing! Mine is still sitting out there half mowed. It hasn't been dry enough to finish it. It's not raining, it's just cool, so the dew never dries out of it and it clogs up the mower.

I think I am going to try and find an Arabian stud for Jody now. Being as she is a purebred, with no papers, her foal would be registered half. That is if I can find a decent one close. I still like that little racking pony stud and still might go look at him. Decisions, decisions...

Well, IF we were to ever breed Cyn, I go back and forth on what to breed her to also. She's a registered half Arab. We could also breed her to an Arab and get a registered foal, or to a QH and try to achieve a foal with more muscle and heft than she has.

A happy medium could be to breed her to a big Polish Arab similar in size and type to Bay.

But that's a big if... and we really need to have more room. The foal would be bred to keep, not to sell.
