*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

The memorial is very nice, they've cleaned it up and coated it with some kind of coating to keep it looking nice.

When it was first out in the park, it looked really like a piece of wreckage...it was scuffed, dirty and had spray paint on it. They had an orange barrier fence up around it and a temporary sign telling what it was.

That park, btw, is just down the street from us. It's where we go bike riding. I rarely see more than a few people there...it's a nice little park.

We live just over the bridge on the north side of the Arkansas river.

I don't believe this bike trail was ever anything but a bike trail. Like I've been saying all the towns around here have gotten together and have been putting in bike trails all over, along the river, and along the side of alot of the epressways. They are all very pretty, and there are spurs off the trails that take you thru alot of the parks.

About that memorial....boy this could get me flamed:)....but I have mixed emotions about that sort of thing. There is a plaque on the other side of the beam that gives the names of the people "that made this memorial possible". I don't care for that sort of thing. It should have been the names of the people that were killed that had relatives in this area, or no other plaque at all. I don't think we should ever forget about 9-11, but I think this memorial is rather morbid, and some people are just tooting their own horns, at the expense of others very tragic deaths. Bixby could be a nice little town, but the people in charge are sooooo corrupt, the goverment here is a cesspool.

I don't think you're wrong for feeling that way...

It is true that many people make charitable contributions hoping that others will see them doing it. I understand that emotion, and in my work, we often give credit for donations in any publicity.... But I can see it as downright tacky when they want their names right on the thing.

Preach it, sis...I agree with the city government business. What gets me about that park is that it seems to be actually "owned" by a few individuals in town and they decide what is going in it. The person that decided to put that doofy pancake flat house in there oughta have their head examined, imo. Can't you just see some ritzy person coming up with this "brilliant" idea and all the people that want to look good socially around that person saying "Oh yes! Oh yes!"

We use the park, but when we do I always wonder who's been kissin' who's what for the stuff that's been done to it. Kinda makes me chuckle. They can afford to do doofy stuff to the park, but can't afford to scrape the snow off the streets or give us water that isn't brown and doesn't have to have a notice sent out that it's contaminated.

(I like the piece of the WTC though...I show it to the jedis and we remember. But I agree...the plaque is tacky.)

Well, here's you something to look at when you get back on. I thought it was a pretty good group picture on some of my bunch. I think I'll call it "Shades of Gray"...

Very pretty. They almost look like a black and white blended in to color. Will the light one get darker?

Great picture. Are they grays or roans?

I just got in from riding Harley...gosh it is so humid. But I took one picture, and then a couple of the new saddle pad I picked up this morning.

Good lookin' new pad! You needed that!

[A little oil on that saddle, and you'd be dressed to go to town ;~D]

Are you going tonight?

...Will the light one get darker?

They will all get darker in the winter. The one on the left (Hope) and the one in the center(Bob) are roans. The one on the right(Grace) is a gray. She will continue to get lighter and lighter year after year until she is totally white. The other two will not. They will go through seasonal lightening and darkening of the body but always have dark "points" like a Siamese cat.

Nice lookin' pad! I've always liked a black pad. It makes the saddle stand out better. Do you have to have that other pad up underneath there? It'd look better if it wasn't there, but if ya gotta have it, ya gotta have it.

Well, Charlie oiled it while I was at TX. Do you think it needs more? The only thing I need now to finish up what tack I need, is I'd like a pair of sports medicene boots, and a black nylon head stall. I saw a palamino in TX done in all black and I thought it looked really good. I'm not buying this stuff just for looks, I really need it, but it doesn't hurt for everything to match:) Probably be able to get that in 2 wks, the farrier is coming next week:), Then I'll be dressed for town:)

I just talked to Kristy. I think we are just going to go over to the ranch. She wants to work her young horse, but needs someone there incase:). They we are going to go up to their arena and work barrels on Rowdy and Harley. I'm mainly would be going just to work hiim in a different arena and this is a new one to him.

It's just miserably hot, and the barrel race is over an hour away. I'm not coping out:), I'm determinded to go to the race in Broken Arrow starting the Aug 23. Now matter how we're doing I going to that one. But going over to the ranch tonight saves me the $10 buck entry, a lot of gas money, and alot of time, and still accomplishes the same thing.

The only thing about this I don't like, is there will be no timer....but if just this week I can go over there and push him the way I have been at home, I'll feel pretty good. Then next week I'll go back to the real one.

And makes it easier for them to take pictures of you running, I bet :~D

On the saddle, there are some dark oils that will really soak in and darken it all down to the same color... That would look nice. You've just worn and faded the finish off, using it as much as you do!

Well it's what my son told me to do, and how they recommended us to do it at the clinic. To be honest, LOL, I can't remember why but I'll ask Charlie, and let you know. There is a reason, I just can't remember what it was.

Personally, tho, I kind of liked it hanging out that little bit all around, kind of a contrast. But, it is rather a pain getting/keeping it straight, and I worry about it bunching up, having a wrinkle.

Yeah, I'll difinetly take pictures of Kris, and get her to take some of me.

You know, I can't oil the fenders on my saddle, they are rough out. I could oil the underside, but it wouldn't help what shows.
