This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Cute puppies Rose:)

Thanks Becky, I just went over to get them to bring them in to cool off, but they were hungry so I let them be. I'll get them in a little while! It is SO hot out there! I am wanting to ride Sugar, but that can wait till it cools down. I wish we lived somewhere cooler, or at least somewhere where the humidity was not so high!
It looks like Dennis might be heading our way too, so I need to make sure everyone is safe and settled. I will probably put Moms and Puppies in deaconjims workshop. : )
He's baaaaaack.
Uh, LOTR is Lord of the Rings, you doof.
LOL!
Yes, that was her. I bet that the breeder would have paid me the stud fee to go away and never see my trailer come in his driveway again. She darn near killed the stallion. We tried three times.
Then the veet came and said she had NOT had a Caslick's. Oh well.
Hey, Frost Farms was where I went to look at that "gentle, well-broke" horse that turned out to be green broke!
She is a horse-trader. From previous acquaintances, I would say they are irish Gypsies, or 'Travlers'. You could possibly get a good deal from them but have to be very careful. It was clean and well-kept and the horses were healthy, but the whole place was composed of trailers with all the back yards or property in common, to make a small pasture plus a lot of pens.
The horse was named Boomer and he was on Ag Direct. Frost Farms have a lot of horses on Ag Direct. They must have a hell of a turnover.
My girlfriend, who sort of handed her off to me, had her with a trainer for two weeks, and before that she'd been with a trainer.
The one thing I could figure out for her would be jumping, in a controlled space, an arena. She can jump like a deer. Very willing, athletic, very balanced.
She just has a very frantic, fearful mind.
Dolly always took immense amounts of work to ride.
When Karen first got her, her previous owner had been terrified of her. So Dolly got mean, agressive. She would actually rear up and strike at people with her front hooves. I had only seen that in the movies.
Then when you let her go into pasture, she'd strike out with her hind feet. She got Karen good one time.
After she was cured of those bad habits, on trail rides she would be so fearful of the wagons and crowds of horses, she would bond like Velco to one other horse, and then start dominating that horse, crowding and snapping at him/her. If the horse and rider went somewhere else, Dolly would go insane. Even with 5cc's of Ace, she would be frantic, bolting forward through the other horses to get to her 'bonded' friend.
She did it with me once before I could stop her, and smashed into three horses with red ribbons on their tails. They all three struck out at once (team kicking?) and Dolly leaped off to one side and I was on the ground.
Nothing has ever cured her of her hypervigilant, aggressive nature and I don't want to try --- because her trot is so horrible.
But I think she would do okay in a really controlled environment, like strictly arena work. I have seen her jump, though, and she adores it.
Why do I always get the wierdos? (sob) But man she is good to lok at.
She has a good life. She stays fat on cheaply-leased pasture, and loves me so much when I come with the oats.
People are such jerks, they give honest sellers a bad name. There is another place in Mansfield or Burleson that has a large turnover, it's called H and H something or other and all their horses are "family friendly". BS.
I'm glad you told me about Frost Farms, I was thinking of driving out there sometime to see Tuffy's mother. No way I'm going now. I won't be recommending them to anyone either. You know, it really doesn't pay to cheat people, since word of mouth in this industry is a very big deal.

This is that H and H place, it's in Joshua. Check out their turnover. Unbelievable.
I have to admit she sounds a little neurotic :) Sort of like Friday is right now.
Wow, that is a heck of a turnover!
I assume the deal is "buy cheap sell high" but where are they getting registered horses cheap?
Frost Farms wanted $3,500 for Boomer, the green-broke fraud.
I looked at the pedigreed ones, and my bet is that they are off the Quarter horse racing tracks. They seem to have racing bloodlines.
But the others? They are good-looking.
Good afternoon ladies! We've been cleaning the barn and organizing. Found a mouse nest full of babies and Gidget ate the attending parent and all the little babies ;~D Ugh. I can't stand the drama ;~D.
The people I bought Tuffy from bought him as a foal. I'm really, really curious as to what she paid for him. I bet it wasn't over $1000 with a big turnover like that.
They are all nice looking horses but you're right, I bet she's getting them dirt cheap off the track, putting in 2 or 3 months of riding and then claiming they are broke family horses.
Gotta run, tonight is my riding night with the girls. The horses are all loaded up and waiting.
Mouse cookies, yummmmm
I haven't found a place in Texas yet that wasn't snakey:') Too bad about Dolly. I'm getting up about 5 and going to check on my babies. I would leave tonight but my husband being all "manly" about me driving late. I'm not cooking or cleaning 1st either. I'm sure it will wait for me to get back:')
There is a rescue place in Joshua too, isn't there?
Nice looking dog but doesn't he shed all over your furniture?
