*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

They get their shots at 5 weeks, then go back to have anything they need and health certificates. The BLUE and LEMON are rare and very sought after. We have lots of TRI too! 14 pups in all! The Blue are $800, the Lemon $ 650 and the TRI $400. They are AKC registered with wonderful pedigrees! I have already had interest in a few pups and they wont be ready till end August/begining September!
It may sound a lot of money, but those prices are the norm and I spend a LOT of money on my dogs. : ) I keep my vet in business with all the animals I have!
I will be keeping Baxter away from the girls for quite a while though. I dont want to become a "puppy mill"!

LOL that's a story! I saw English setters advertised locally and went OOHH to deaconjim, I LOVE English setters and he said NO. We already have 4 dogs. So of he went to work in MY van, with MY keys so that I couldnt go get one..... HA!
Soon as he left, I called a friend, we called the owner, loaded the kids and came back with a setter each! LOL
Deaconjim just rolled his eyes when I told him! He knows me by now, If I have a mind to do something, nothing will stop me! LOL

Hi. I'm still here, and I lurk a bit now and then... mostly to check up on my wife. ;~D Been busy working on other projects lately.

We aren't going riding this weekend, at least not out on trail. Hair's dad is still holding on to the truck, plus we gotta go to beach house for her brother's b-day on Sunday.

Thankyou!
Our Bassets arent howlers thank goodness, they will bark if soemone comes up the road, but that is pretty rare. Our cat BITS annoyed the devil out of Baxter yesterday though! She walked up to his 40x60 enclosure and sat on top of the fence post, then walked along the fence, then sat down and washed herself just the otherside, out of reach! You could tell she was baiting him! LOL

I am looking for a new horse, and the best site I know is Agdirect.

But as always, buyer beware. I found one that I thought was perfect and traveled 250 miles to look at him. He was advertised as well-trained and gentle. When I got on him --- he was seven years old --- it was obvious he was green-broke. Boy was I mad. I didn't say anything, just got off him and left.

Anyway Agdirect seems to have a great number of horses for sale.

I have two, both of them charity cases. Neither really good for trail riding.

The Thoroughbred is elderly and delicate and has always been clumsy.

The other I took when a girlfriend's husband got transferred from San Antonio to Fort Lewis. My friend had to move a pair of twins, older boy, four vehicles and a household, and just couldn't manage a horse and trailer. I said I would take her and keep her until someday Karen could find a place for her out in Washington.

She's a nut case. Not rideable, really. Terrible, terrible trot besides being untrustworthy.

Plus a spotted donkey.

So there they all are, on 70 acres of pasture, grazing away, getting fat, and me basically on foot.

But, sucker that I am, I love them all.

Dolly, the nutcase. She's very beautiful but I am tired of fighting with her and trying to make her rideable. She's put me on the ground more than once. But I just love to see here running in pasture.
