*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I've always favored the phrases "I beg your pardon?" and "Surely you jest!"

Yeah 'cause you know.... leaves will bite you. Or so the mare tells me.

Actually I use both those phrases quite frequently. I've always wanted to use the phrase "Are you out of your skull?" but... I always try for subtlety first.

The thing is that I can't think of them at the time I need them though:')
Yeah neither can I. Usually it's when I'm fuming mad too. The only time I can think of good comebacks on the spot is when I either can't use them because I'll get fired, or I just don't have the guts to. :-p

Yes :) - the one I always want to use is "Why are you in my world?" but I restrain myself.

Does anyone else like to look at "horse for sale" sites around the country? Horseclassifieds.com has videos that are fun to watch. I haven't watched the video on this guy yet but ya'll gotta look at the pic. The heads just keep getting lower..and lower...and lower. How low are they gonna go?

Speaking of acting up in the wind, did I tell ya'll that I rented an indoor arena every Friday night? Last Friday it was raining and very cool so we went over there early, I take George for my 9 year old, Winnie for Mandy and Tuffy for me. Well, it was windy and cool so George was seeing and hearing boogers everywhere. Didn't help that this arena has fans that were squeeking and moving in the wind. I finally gave up and put my 9 year old on Tuffy, just leading her around. She's going to ride him again today on the lunge line. I need to try to remember my camera tonight.

By the way, Winnie is always the best of the bunch. She's real herd bound to Tuffy but as long as he's within eyeshot, she's as good as gold. No spook, walk, trot and canter beautifully, even after being off work for more than 6 months.

Gawd, that is so NOT english. From your post I was expecting to see a western pleasure horse. I was surprised when it was English. The last few times I have been to a show, I was getting where I liked the English riding best, because they did look like this. I guess it's infiltrating...too bad.

Sounds like fun.

Has Mandy rode in her western saddle anymore.

My son just came in to go to work and told us Kristy ran in another barrel race last night, She got 2 in the 2nd division. Looks like the clinic helped her, she's been doing alot better since then. Won enough to pay her entry to go to a big one a week from tomorrow.

That's a lovely horse, too. Looks like he could make a really nice english horse, if they would stop that peanut rolling headset. Did you see the price? $16,500 I think it was. I saw one last night whose price was $65,000 but going by the video, he was a pretty high level jumper.

I just looked at the picture. I didn't read any of the particulars. The low headset was enough to turn me off of looking more.

That's wonderful! Aren't you glad you went to that clinic? If there is ever a clinic between me and you, hopefully we can meet.

What's the entry fee at these barrel races? 30 years ago when I was barrel racing, the most I ever paid was $10. Bet it's a little more than that now.

Nope, Mandy hasn't ridden in her new saddle. It's still sitting at the barn with the broom through the stirrups. If we ever go to the trails, she will be using it. Oh, she got her learner's permit yesterday. Scary. Seems like yesterday that I brought her home as a newborn baby.

OOOOOO....learners permit:)

The entry fee's vary. The one we are going to on Tues. is $20. I'm not sure what the price is for the one last night. The one she is going to next Sat. is $35. I went and watched one last year, the Drysdale Series that was $150.

Holy cow, $150?? What was the winning purse?

On the $20 entry fees, what do you win? I won a few cheapie belt buckles and some ribbons and trophies. I never won any money. :(

I dont' know how much the winners won at the Drysdale series. Alot, I know that.

On the $20 entry fee, it's determined by how many people are there. Tues night Kristy got $14 for a 4th in the 4th divison, there were 42 people running. Last night she got $60 for the 2nd in the 2nd divison.

The Tues night series we are going to, run for a set amount of time, From July till Oct. If you make it to 6 you qualify for their finals and can win a nice buckle. The time for the buckle is determined by the average of your 7 runs.

Mostly all these things have different rules. Some of these add 1/2 seconds to the division some a whole second, some a 1/2 for some divisions and awhole for the rest. It gets very confusing:) I think they are all just trying to find the fairest way that draws the most crowds.

Oh, I forgot to tell you, some of the better races have added money too. The one Kris is going to next Sat. has $1000 added. I don't know how they divide that up, but it makes for a bigger pay back.
