This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I really like the land you got the kids. We bought 40 acres and subdivided it for our two boys. We told them we would sell it to them at cost. Bob's son didn't want it unless he could buy it on time, $100 per month. We said no to that so he didn't want it at all. We ended up selling his twenty acres. Now he thinks we should subdivide my son's twenty acres into 5 acre plots, one for my son, one for him, one for his son, and one for us to sell. That will be over my dead body.
Oh I understand why, but those are some harsh choices! Who do you want to end up ~with~?
The shoes are staying on. He was recommended. If I don't cook on weekends we tend to eat out during the week. I just took some more motrin. I'm going to do some work later. I really want to get away. We'll see. I'm waiting on my BIL to call. He's gone to pick up the travel trailer.
Well, I'd like to get down to Prez, (Bob's gelding); Sonny (our stud); Dusty (my mare); Indy (my son's gelding); Egypt (my DIL's mare); and Ghost (the gelding Bob want's to use for endurance). I imagine I'd be prevented from selling Farah, Friday and Fanny - three mares that we have.
With the mares, is the debate about use, or breeding them, or sentiment?
I would like to find something near for my kids but not on our property.
Well, it's a combination of all I think. Farah is a wonderful broodmare (although expensive to keep in foal) and the dam of Indy, Fanny and Tuffy; all great horses. Fanny is the daughter of Farah and Prez, sired before Prez was gelded. She is also not sound so can't be used for anything but a broodmare. Friday is eye catching, will win at the shows and Bob wants to breed her to Sonny.
The property we bought is about a mile away. Close enough to see and walk to but far enough that we wouldn't be in each others laps.
A mile is good:')
I hope that one day, I can do the same and buy our kids a bit of land to help get them started. Especially if it is near enough to be great when grandkids start arriving, but far enough away for independence and freedom. : ) Soemthing they can keep or sell. Land is a good investment.
Only a week now till we head out for two weeks! I'm getting excited. All the animals are covered as i have a wonderful friend who lives just 5 miles down the road. : )
We are going to head out in the evening and drive through the night. It will probably take us 16 hrs with breaks.
Well Emma has the monopoly board out, so I am being called! LOL Chat later!
I'm so excited for yall. Are you going to check out that property?
Just got Melody put up in the upper corral and fed and watered. It's all right. He said it was a swollen lymph node, from viral infection, not cancer.
Long hot drive! At least 102. Listening to the radio all the way about London.
He said it will go down on its own and would have been worse except she had her regular shots against rhinovirus, flu etc. Says it will shrink on its own.
If it had been bacterial it would have burst. A mess with this hot weather flies, etc.
Much relieved.
My mare is like that
Not sure. It doesnt have enough flat land/pasture for us. So probably not. We do have quite a few properties that we intend on seeing. They are in MO : )
I hope you find what you are looking for.
It's hard when it's really windy. Too bad your friend wasn't there. Another southern phrase is "well arent you special?":') Me, I can think of all kinds of good come backs. The thing is that I can't think of them at the time I need them though:')
