This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Great picture! : )
Luckily the damn thing didn't bite me. I was getting ready to put the sprinkler on and felt something funny under my foot and looked down. LOL, I sure screamed funny. I got the hoe and held it down till Mack came and got the limb loppers and lopped off his head.
Getting a bit unnerving. We had one of these in the driveway last year. In 24 years we've found 3 rattlesnakes on our property, 2 in the last 2 years, both about the same size. Do these things nest in an area and stay there. This one had 2 rattle segments on his tail, so I don't think he was very old. EEWWWWW, scared me:), no more barefoot for me.
Becky
GADS!
Just one more thing I'm thankful we don't have. venomous snakes.
This damn thing never moved at all. I stepped on him, held him down with a hoe and Mack got hold of it's head with the loppers and it didn't fight at all....That seems strange to me.
Becky
You don't have any venomous snakes at all??? Do you have any snakes?
Becky
Maybe it was ill.... Maybe it's just slow in the heat??? I dunno.
We only have little garter snakes.
No venomous snakes, no venomous bugs :~D
I marvel at folk that live where there are who dare go in the woods! There are a few small rattlers in the desert parts of Eastern WA.... half the size of those commonly seen in AZ... and smaller than that one.
But not on this side of the mountains. too cool? too wet?
It's been years (up till last year), that we have had snakes in the yard. I'm always running around barefoot. The one we found last year, I figured was a fluck and didn't think twice about it, now I'm beginning to wonder how many are out there:). i will be wearing shoes from now on.
Snakes don't bother me to bad. This one just scared me because I did step on it. One other time one scared me because it was in the house. I found it under a sack of trash that has sat on the floor for a day. Finding them out in the woods doesn't bother me. I leave them alone, give them plenty of space and go on about my business. But I don't like to find them that close t the house. Especially a rattlesnake, JP and Blake play out there....EEWWWWWWW.
Becky
~shudder~... Make sure they know to stay away if they see one.... and report to you if they ever get bit.
As kids visiting in AZ we were told semi-casually how to avoid snakes, I guess. Kids play outside there too :~D
I have one, but it's an internal card reader, and I'm trying to figure out what bay it would go into in my computer, I think right below the floppy disk drive if it's possible, but I have no idea how to hardwire it in. It might be easier for me to either look for the darn cable a little bit harder, or buy a new one. :-)
Yeargh! Ugh ugh ugh. Oh you're so lucky! I'm glad that you didn't bet gitten! Uh. Get Bitten! :-)
Well THANK YOU Becky! I really needed to see that! LOL
We had one at the end of our drive way with 11 rattles and a button the other day. URGH! The postman killed it!
Have I ever mentioned that I HATE snakes????? ;D
I want to move to Washington!
BTW Becky, the one that I saw was a timber rattler. We also have water moccasins, cottonmouths, copperheads, coral snakes, diamond back rattlers, and lots of non poisonous ones. I have seen a very thick, very large, 6ft plus, rattlesnake. : (
What with black widow spiders, and all those snakes, fire ants in the yard, so hot you cant breathe............do you blame me for wanting to move to Washington Hair? :)
I've been outside taking pictures of the fireworks going off up the road. These people have cannons I think. Really big stuff.
Becky
Yeah - we've got neighbors who buy that stuff too.
About an hour till sundown here. Tonight is the town display, so it might actually be quiet if folk are off at that.... till they get home afterwards :~\
Hey - no venomous biting things, mild temperatures, no hurricanes or tornados.... I love it here!
Good morning.
Raining here this morning.
Becky
You can buy them already made up and loaded in a cardboard mortar in the fireworks outlets by the side of the road. We used to make our own back in the day.
