*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

LOL...hey maybe that's the trick:). Well, I want some distance between us. The time I went down there with the bobcat and moved all the rocks for them, she asked if there was something they could do for us. At first I said no, but she kept after me, so I asked if the next time it was convienent for them could they bring thier chain saw down and cut a dead tree down that was in my front yard. That was 2 years ago the tree is still there, but I never asked again, because I didn't want them to feel they owed me.

Oh well, if I ever take a trip again, the horses here will just have to deal with being feed only 2 times a day. i'm not asking CS to come here 3 times. Besides most generally the kids are around and can take a turn. The trip to TX was unusual that we all went.

I just stepped outside for a minute, and was throwing a stick for Grizzly. Nikki decided to join in by running over and barking at Harley who is loose in the front yard. I hollered at her to quit, then Susie decided to join the "fun" and jumped on Nikkie. A horrible dog fight insued. At first Nikki got Susie down, then let her up when I hollered, so Susie turns and grabs Nikkis ear. I was smacking her, trying to pry her mouth open, Nikki was screaming....I finally got them apart, I'm holding Susie up and Grizzly jumps up and sniffs her and she's snarling and snapping. So I shove her into the garden, and Nikki runs up and starts growling at her thru the fence slats....Is there a full moon tonight or something...Gawd....what a mess.

Luckily no one is bleeding.

That's kind of sad really:(...It is very hard to travel when you have this much livestock. My extended family just doesn't get it why we don't travel more.

Well, if we go on doggable trips, it's easier to think about leaving for a weekend, at least in summer. If only the horses are here, it's not too hard to have the girl who works at the store come and throw hay over the fence and fill water troughs twice a day. But the dogs are not used to being alone.

I mean... I just can't be flying in a farm sitter from out of state every time we travel ;~D

One more. I just went out to feed before sitting down, and there are already lots of fireworks going off. It doesn't seem to bother the horses tho.

Ah - well, I had been wondering whether I should put mine in tonight, it's been quiet, but you're two hours ahead.

Distant fireworks don't bother the horses really, but the sum total of all the big stuff off the reservation gets them kinda wiggy, IF they are loose to get up a head of steam running, it becomes kindof a self-fulfilling prophecy. If they're stalled, they just stand and listen.

It's the dogs I'm not sure about. Their tranquilizers take two hours to work, so if I don't give them and they end up needing them, it's a long two hours singing lullabyes ;~D

Good morning.

I've never had trouble with my dogs whineing, barking, etc. because of fireworks, but they do disappear and won't come out for awhile. Usually under the horse trailer.

Yeah you need to wash your hands of this woman. Sooner rather than later. Sounds like she has no tact or sense.

Oh, and good morning! I'm going into Boston today, and as soon as the new cable comes in for my camera, there will be pictures! :-)(If anyone is interested that is... it's only Boston, but it's Boston on the Fourth of July weekend)

I ordered a new USB cable for my camera, but I think that the friend that I'm going with has the same type of camera as I do, so what I can do is throw my pictures onto one of my jump drives that I have using her computer, and then put them on my computer.

My lab/border collie is a wuss when it comes to loud noises, we've had to take beds apart because he's gotten himself stuck under them more then once. My cocker spainel is deaf as a door so no worries there about him.

Your neighbor is a real piece of work, isn't she? Pit bulls and poodles are sure on opposite ends of the spectrum. I'd avoid that crazy woman like the plague. And for her to make such a big deal about you saying you were a little afraid of her dogs is ridiculous. Any sane person is a little afraid of pits and your neighbor sounds very irresponsible, no telling how she's training those dogs.

I watched my neighbors horses and donkeys once while they were gone but I sure as heck don't expect anything in return.

Have a wonderful time in Boston and I would love to see some pics, I hear Boston is a beautiful city.

Have you run into that arrogant woman at the stables again, yet? I think the suggestion of saying "well, bless your little heart!" next time she smarts off to you is the way to go. Be as condescending as possible.

Good morning all. Every day I wake up I am so glad to be back home again. It's a fine clear morning, am going to church in a couple of hours. We have not had rain here for over a month. Who was it that was looking for land in the hill country of Texas? I forgot. Promised to keep an eye out for them but that's no good if I don't remember who it was!

she was sending the dogs to a kennel, because someone as afraid of them as you are has no business being around my dogs. They are not maneaters, and I'm not putting them thru having you around them.
Sounds to me like she was doing her best to goad you in to an argument. She needed a slap for that comment! GRrrrrr.
