This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Well I am going to get some lunch then check on the pups again. Chat later! Have a great day everyone!
Yeah - but I remember when I had my male lab, having him in the near proximity to other females in heat at shows was a pain. If there was a female in heat within a mile he was a whining, quivering wreck for those days.... He made me crazy.... I can't imagine having two females living on site as well.
But more power to ya :~D LOL
I don't think he has the energy to protest or do anything unless it's handed to him on a plate! He is a Basset Hound after all! : )
Ah - well, perhaps that is why you have lived with the situation this long. ;~D
:) Happy Birthday
What beautiful little babies.
Must have been heaven for him! LOL
I have advertised my puppies with pics, stating that I am NOT a breeder, because I think i will get a different type of person. (I hope : ) )
I ahve already had interest, and the pups wont be available till begining Sept!
The parents have quality AKC pedigrees and are wonderful dogs who are loving and great with kids, so I dont think I'll have any problems finding homes for them.
Bassets are so adorable!
Hello everyone, I am back from a long trip, family stuff --- two family reunions and a wedding. Everything was okay here at the ranchito, horses and plants taken care of by neighbors. What would we do without them.
Lucky you have got such good neighbors. We have one that doesnt mind in the bit caring for all our animals, but then i'd do the same for her in a heartbeat!
Did you have a good time? Glad to be back home I bet!
Cyn and the pony were looking awfully moth-eaten, Cyn especially, I think a combination of bug bites (not flies, I don't think, but these little no-see-um gnats we have) and them itching themselves on the trees, they were rubbing off patches of hide. Cyn had an especially good wound on her rear end.... either from horse or tree rubbing, not sure. By the time we got done hosing them down and spraying with furazone... she looked like she'd been graffitied. ;~D
We have them grazing in the yard till they're dry, so ~hopefully~ they will forget to roll.

It should be available to anyone right now because I set the security that way for the time being. It's Trails End Ranch 05
And the foal lying down is precious!
LOL...Indian war paint:)
Becky
Thanks, although I'm not sure any of them are appropriate for a catalog cover.
Pretty unartistic Indian ;~D
Who knows ;~D
Funny you all should talk about neighbors helping out. Thank heavens I had CS to look after my place, I wish she lived a little closer just for her convience.
The neighbor I had do the afternoon feeding, I think I'm probably done asking her for help. I've helped her out in the past, feeding for her, taking the bob cat to her house to move rocks for her, taking her to work numerous times when her car was broke down, lending her money for cigerattes, but ever since we've been back she has been acting like I owe her. With Beth it's always "what have you done for me today" and she reallly pissed me off the other day. Can I rant here:)
She rasies pit bulls. They are kept on chains during the day, and in crates at night. When I fed for her I had to move them back and forth. They don't know me. Rather right or wrong, pit bulls make me nervous, but I took care of them just fine the time I fed for her last year. She also had tons of chickens, poodles in the house, rabbits and horses. IOW's it was a big job, but I was happy to do it. When they got back she asked if the dogs were a problem. I said No, she asked if I was afraid of them, and I was honest and said yeah a little. She said if I ever had to feed again for her she would have her mother take the dogs.
Since we got back from TX she has been driving me crazy about getting her copies of the pictures I took of her and her family on the Mem. day ride. That's a whole nother story, but enough to say, she wants those pictures NOW. I can't get them to her NOW, but could (not now tho) have got them for her in a few weeks, I have to wait till Jenny's husband is back on days. I was going to email them to him and he can make prints. But when he works nights he doesn't have time to do much other then work and sleep.
I've told her that 100 times and she keeps asking every day if I have the pictures yet.
Then the other day she calls and says she told her husband, since I fed for Becky we need to take a trip so she can feed for us, so they were taking a trip and I needed to feed for her, but she was sending the dogs to a kennel, because someone as afraid of them as you are has no business being around my dogs. They are not maneaters, and I'm not putting them thru having you around them. Honest that is what she said. It kind of caught me off guard and hurt my feelings really.
I mean she's acting like I owe her because she did a job for me that couldn't have taken her more then 5 minutes each day. I just don't think that's why neighbors should do stuff for each other. I'm going to feed for her this time, but I'm done with her after this. She's one of those people that seems to always be looking for something to fight about in the neighbor hood too. But I've always just ignored the stuff she says about others, and keep my mouth shut about them to her:). I think she's an alright person, just no sense. You know what I mean. But I think I'm done with her.
Becky
LOL
Becky
Good rant.... I've known a friend or two like that in the past and some of them I've known so long I've forgotten why I started putting up with them in the first place!
When I am doing a favor for someone I bend over backwards to make sure ~they~ don't feel like a charity case. But I also have a friend who makes it clear you are in her debt whenever she is doing a favor for you. Jeepers.... It works for her, because she's the ~last~ person I'd ask.
