This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
There are too many rats and mice to kill snakes. You would not belive how many mice there are in a hay field. The snakes can stay and I will just watch where I step.
Between the seven dust and the venus fly traps Walmarts has rat traps too. After we cut the heads off it's tradition to lay them in the middle of the road. Not sure why:')
That WAS a good one!
It may have been the only time but your Mom was wrong......
: )
Nature has much better rat and mice traps ... and I do not have to empty them either.......
Now about those pesky flies, we have a bumper crop of them again this year.
Not sure why to put dead snakes in the road either.
What, about thinking that I shoulda been a boy? I guess my husband's glad she was wrong too. ;o)
Oh, and the other old saying is that even if you cut their heads off, the snake can still bite you until sundown. Don't know where that came from either. Maybe because they twitch for such a long time afterwards that they don't really look dead. It sounds like something from a really bad "B" horror flick...like "Revenge of the Vampire Snakes" or something.
LOL!
YUK! On that note, I am going to say goodnight! Deaconjim should be home any second and the hot tub is calling!
Night! : D
Good Night from here too!
Oh BTW, I took Bluebell to be ultrasounded this afternoon and she IS bred back. WOO HOO! I'm gonna have her checked again at 45 days like he said to make sure it sticks. Truly and her new baby, Ellie, have been up in Tennessee all week visiting a stallion, so hopefully she's bred back too. I'm going to pick her up tomorrow afternoon. I'm looking forward to seeing Ellie again. I'm sure she's grown a bunch while she's been gone. She's such a sweetie!
Have a good one! You better check that tub for snakes. They like warm damp places you know! ;o)
Well, it's been fun, but I'm outta here too. G'nite!
Night
Night to you too.
Do you have any idea what his record is as far as throwing color? I forsee a gorgeous baby there.
I just went to What a Burger and ordered a breakfast on the bun without meat. The guy responded "they don't come with meat, just bacon or sausage". Still trying to figure that one out:')
Those are great shots Becky! Glad you remembered you had the camera!
Our seats were close, just two rows of heads above us. If I had a complaint, it might be that we were so close we could often not see feet. Up higher might have actually had a clearer view. They seated people within feet of the arena. So close that I'm sure the front row got slimed with occasional slobber flyin' out of the horse's mouths.
They did many group exercises... synchronized and choreographed dressage patterns.
The first 'airs above the ground demo, they did in hand... on long lines. Most horses they use in exhibition are late in their teens or twenties... this stallion is only seven. A huge break with tradition but he is a great Capriole horse, which is what is seen here. Coincidentally, this is exactly what my pony does when we jab her in the butt with a needle ;~D
This is an Andalusian Stallion... Andalusions are accepted and being used in Lipizzan breeding programs to improve the very small gene pool.
This rider is doing a Corbette under saddle. He actually hops forward like this.
This horse had some neck.
This is the chief rider and lead horse in a musical number.
This is the whole group together for a routine near the end.
I thought the lighting in this one is cool
This flag rider rode around while the MC spoke of the capture of the Spanish Riding School, home of the Lipizzaner, in Austria, by the Germans in WWII, and of Patton's unauthorized rescue of the stallions that recovered them from Nazi possession. They said there will always be a special appreciation to America for saving the breed. It was actually quite a patriotic event, the first flag horse they brought out for the national anthem was bein' fractious... and the lady had to hand off the flag because her horse was not going to behave. He looked about ready to come unglued. The MC said "We should have known that horse would get edgy during the national anthem... he was born in France".... lol.
Sorry so many pictures, I just thought I got so lucky getting a lot of good shots.
That's a very cool pic and a good story. :-)
French horses... figgers... :-)
