Oh, and the other old saying is that even if you cut their heads off, the snake can still bite you until sundown. Don't know where that came from either. Maybe because they twitch for such a long time afterwards that they don't really look dead. It sounds like something from a really bad "B" horror flick...like "Revenge of the Vampire Snakes" or something.
