*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I've never tried the ones with stirrups but I'll bet they're good at keeping your pants legs from riding up. I don't generally have that problem, but every now and then I will. I don't really know why unless I'm just putting more weight in my stirrups some days than others.

Oh, I took lots of pictures of the little jack this evening. He was just precious! His mama didn't mind me messing with him at all as long as there was feed in the bucket. He was a little afraid of me at first and kicked at me a time or two but when I started scratching him he decided I wasn't so bad after all. By the time I was done he was coming over to me every time a fly got on him. So cute! I don't know how good the pics will turn out but I'll post the best ones tomorrow.

He is going to use Lightning as a stud, and him and his family all trail ride a lot which is what Misty is perfect for. Adge and Thunder will just continue their training until they trail too. It's a nice place they are going too, lots of room to run and play and trail ride.

Deaconjim works all the time, and until we move and downsize etc we just dont have the time to ride them all. : ( I'd rather they went to someone who did. When we move, deaconjim is planning on working from home mostly. : D We have 10 acres here and are planning on buying at least 80acres. One place we love has 160 acres surrounded by state forest! We have some finishing to do with this house, and then it will be on the market. : )

Sounds like a perfect place for them Sharn. And the property adjoining the State Forest sounds like a dream. I hope everything works out so you can get it, then we can have a FR Saddle Club party! ;o)

English riding pants I think are called jodpurs? Or something like that, skinny tight lycra with stirrups and patches on the inside knee. Its the ONLY thing to be seen riding in! LOL

She's shipping him to Virginia. I hope she goes with him, because she's a really foul woman. Foul Foul Foul.

Wouldn't that be fun! : )
It's nearly midnight here and deaconjim should be home in about 30 mins, so i need to put a beer in the freezer and tidy the kitchen up. Hopefully I'll get a chance to take some pics (if you all dont mind) of the latest puppies tommorow.
G'night All!

Real horse people don't brag and put other people down. It's been my experience that the people who act like they know the most, know the least.

Oh you're absolutely right, I was just truly floored that someone could be that downright rude. She's always been snarky and sarcastic towards me, but next week I'm going to let my trainer know about what happened, because I don't deserve it, and there was really no need for her to behave that way.

She's truly horrible. My question is, if she's such a fantastic horseman, why the heck doesn't she ever ride her horse? I let her spout off whenever she has something nasty to say, like about my "little rides" and such when I bring a horse in to have a lesson or whatever. But the "real horseman" crap really put me over the top.
Yeah, I'm not the best rider that I used to be. I admit it, I know it, and I used to be good. But the reasons for it are beyond what I can control... literally. But I'm a damn good horseman, and you can put me to the test any day, with any number of horses. (rant off) :-)

Good morning.

It rained!!! I don't think we got the amount they forecasted, but we got some.

I'm watching JP and Blake today. When I go down there I will take Belle with me. I've lost the ambition to deal with her right now. I'lll try again next spring.

Pants made out of TShirt type material would be comfortable. Are they loose or snug fitting on your legs? ARe they specific for riding or just something you picked up?

I've probably told ya'll this story before but at a place where my oldest daughter used to take lessons, there was this weirdo woman. The first time I saw her, I took the instructor aside and asked if she was worried about that woman getting hurt, because she was such an awful rider and looked like she was going to take a tumble any minute. The instructor quietly told me how this woman, before she started lessons, bragged nonstop about how well she rode and all the big name trainers she trained with. She said they couldn't wait to watch this incredible rider ride and when they did, they were stuned. The woman couldn't ride for $hit.

I saw on the radar that you were gonna get some rain. There were some big storms just north of Oklahoma City. Still nothing here, it's starting to look like the dust bowl.

I'm not surprised, I've seen it before. And I know in my gut that a lot of the crap that this woman does is a front because I've never seen her touch the horse, and she's clearly clearly afraid of him. I saw him being worked once, he's a gorgeous horse, really, but it wasn't her that was riding him, it was another girl who worked him in a lunging circincle, and then rode him bareback.

However, I'm going to politely mention it to my trainer, not to cause trouble but to make her aware of what's going on, because this woman is her nastiest when no one is around to witness it. I've met my fair share of arrogant horse people, but this is not fair to me. I'm not a barn worker, so therefore it's not my job to be abused. I certainly do not intend to leave the barn...I mean my trainer is excellent, she's tough but I've learned more from her in a year than I have in 9 from my other trainer, and I've become a better rider for it. I don't ride as well as I used to, but it's not my fault, and I don't like being belittled for it by some witch. I'm not ranting at you, I'm just ranting in general. :-)

Rant away, I can take it. :)

That woman sounds like she's jealous of you. People with low self esteem have a need to put down the people around them, especially the ones they are jealous of. You're getting on the horses and putting in a big effort, she's afraid to ride. Pure jealousy.
