*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I like the pic of Harley tied waiting.... He looks all excited.

"OK - why are we standing here alone? Is someone else coming? Are we waiting? Well, where are they?"

Looks like the ground is the same kind of red clay and big rocks you have at home.... is that common to the whole state?

Okay, if this is too many pictures blame Hair:) These are just assorted trail pictues.

The horse in the center is some type of gaited horse, the rest of them are quarters. We had 2 grays, 1 sorrel, 1 paint, 1 bay, and Harley:)

Notice Celia wore shorts. she throws a towel over her saddle and wears shorts.

That's exactly how he was acting. There was NO ONE else there in the park. He could not figure out what was happening:) He stated out the ride a bit wiggy like he did the other day, but after about 30 minutes he calmed right down, and was his old self the rest of the day. I think I've just got him in such good shape, he feels really well.

I'd like to wear shorts when it's hot, but there's a few spots where there's enough brush and it's narrow where you could get scratched up. ecurbh, of course, would get shredded in the brush, so he better not, until he can settle Cyn down around mud puddles ;~D.

I dont' think it's common to the whole state, but it is over here on the east side.

I like the big rocks jutting out... we just don't have that. Why not? We have mountains made of rock here!

The flat stones in the trail would make me a little nervouse... I'd be saying "Bay, watch your feet". If he's not paying attention he trips over stuff like that.

I wore shorts one time years ago and rubbed a blister on my leg. Never again. Of course I didn't have a towel on my saddle, maybe that would help, but I'm not risking it, I'd rather be hot. We talked about it, I dont' think having shorts on helps all that much. But if she rides in long pants she wears sweat pants...yuk.... She say's she has trouble with the seam of her jeans rubbing. I've never had that happen. She tried to tell me it was because I didn't ride for long enough periods of time:). ....I know I ride more then she does, but you don't argue with her.

Becky, wonderful pictures, glad that you had a good ride!

Well I'm back from the barn, and it was just terrible all around. I was looking forward to going beacuse I had a rough day at work and was exhausted, and I get there, and the snotty woman with the warmblood that she won't ride because she's afraid of it was there, and she was standing there with him with his legs wrapped, which I thought was odd. (Keep in mind I have NEVER seen this woman ride this horse, EVER. All she does is groom him.) So I go and grab the appy and come in the barn and such, and someone came in with a trailer who she greeted, and I said "Oh, who's that?" because I'm not familiar with everyone who's there.
So she looked at me and said: "GEE you're really behind the eightball today! The woman is coming to ship my HORSE!"

I just kind of gaped at her and said "Oh really? I'm ... sorry... I didn't see shipping boots on him."
She then said: "Oh god, I NEVER use shipping boots! They offer no protection at all! What are you talking about? CLEARLY you've NEVER shipped a horse before in your life."

"Actually," I said, I've shipped lots of horses and I've always used shipping boots."
"Well," she said, "REAL horse people don't use shipping boots."
I couldn't even come up with a comeback.
"Furthermore," she said, "I've shipped professionally with my ex-boyfried who was on the united state equestrian team, and he never used shipping boot either."
I almost kicked her in the ass. It RUINED my ride, and other things happened, and it was just terrible. Terrible.

Heh...

I usually ride in cotton stretch pants, like stirrup pants. English stirrup leathers start at the top and can pinch like the dickens, that's why people wear those tall hunt boots. I'd be most worried about that, if not getting scratched on brush.

Being in horses would be pleasant if it wasn't for the other PEOPLE you have to deal with! Especially the wimmen, right?

"Well," she said, "REAL horse people don't use shipping boots."

Real horse people don't brag and put other people down. It's been my experience that the people who act like they know the most, know the least. The professional cowboys I've been around won't tell you anything unless you specifically ask.

I'm so sorry. People can be such pains. Blow it off. Obviously she's an idiot, not worth getting upset over.

Storm is over...and it was a wild ride!!! Wind screamed(weird)...doors slammed shut...windows broke...and house shuddered. Made me wonder if it was 'the exorcist' movie. LOL!
Hubby has left with another load. No way will we be out by tonight. Oh well. It gives me a couple extra hours to spot clean the carpet.
Thanks for the prayer covering!

Well, our prayers couldn't have helped much if you still got broken windows! Hope it's over.

AAWWW Sharn. I'm sooo glad I got to see the new babes! Heh, they look like dishpan wrinkled beagles.

We had a part bassett...'Flea-roy'. His tongue was near as long as his ears. He'd go around with that tongue poking out, and in summer, the end of it would be TANNED, while the rest was nicely pink.

Since we have everything scheduled to be shut off tomorrow, look for snail mail!
