Well, you could turn a sprinkler on where you are lunging, Rusty likes the sprinkler and it would keep the dust down, and keep you both cool, in addition to adding another level of challenge ;~D
Heh...
I like to lunge them because you can really watch how they do. They do have more opportunity to evade them than they would under saddle, but that's part of the fun.
Well, tell her that from one clutz to another, I can relate(grin)
Tell your people good job on the race:)
Whew, 7 hours....I'm good for about 5-5 1/2 then the fun is over and it becomes a chore:)
I did 7 on Memorial day, but it was in spurts, that's not as bad as just straight 7 with small breaks.

Yesterday when I rode Rusty, I move them closer together, to where he had to step over one every step. I put them back up on the blocks. I think he actually paid better attention to where he was stepping. He never bumped one of them where as with them spaced out he knocked several over a few times.
Thanks for the pictures. I'll try the lunge line tomorrow.

Oh and BTW, wasn't this Bob's first race? What did he think? Will he do it again?
Becky
Get some pictures of your try tomorrow if you can!
I'll try. It will have to be in the evening when Mack is home. I don't know if I can take pictures, and lunge at the same time:)

It's a little bit of a challenge, I admit, especially with the sprinkler going ;~D
:) They are learning on the endurance rides. The vet today is the same one that pulled one of our horses a couple of years ago as lame because he wouldn't trot. Today, LOL - she picked up a switch. She finally realized the apps wouldn't trot, not couldn't trot.
Yes, the plastic bags are working. I'm amazed everytime I go out on the porch that I have no flies. Last year I had fly strips hanging everywhere and had to spray the porch a couple of times a day anyway.
Isn't that amazing.... I'll definately try it here!
Just sandwich baggie size or bigger? Full of water right in the doorway?
I took a couple of pictures but at a distance. I'll try to get the energy to download them tonight. I was so busy hauling water and sponging horses and feeding riders that while they were in camp I didn't have a chance.
Yes, you need to make sure they have traction in the trailer and since it's a stock trailer I think, I don't think you can put shavings in it. They would blow out in the wind.
Since they are both adult horses and not working right now, they won't need the protein that a young horse or a hard working horse would need.
I used sandwich size baggies, and I think they are working too. I laid one on the window sill of the laundry room, after spraying, and no more have come in.
In Tx, they had larger size bages, so I guess it doesn't matter.

Thanks, I'm pretty proud of both of them and their horses - very tired but proud.
The man that used to own Sonny came out for the day (from California) and brought a friend of his that used to ride Sonny's dam in endurance. She was a big help at the hour hold in helping with Bob's mare. Fancy was having the hardest time with it, when she came in at the end of the ride, the look in her eyes was "get on me again and you are dead". She's not competitive like Sonny is, so she thinks we are all nuts.
Wow.... what a test.
I'm afraid I'd have withered just sitting there, from the heat.
Yeah, because of the heat they are on a higher protein. All the horses were losing weight about a year& 1/2 ago and this fixed it. Some of the horses where they are going just graze but I thought I would to talk with a vet 1st before I make any changes.
I was going to put shavings in but the stable owner here told me it would blow in their eyes. I'm going with mats and boots.
Bob said no way was he going ahead of the lady. He said later out of her hearing, she's an endurance rider and it's important to her, I was just having fun. Tonight now, he's got pretty bad leg cramps. I think it's a combination of too many hours in the saddle and too little water. He plans on sticking to 25milers now I think. 'Course, who knows - once the fatigue is gone, I've learned they tend to forget until the next time just how hard it is.
Oh my. That would worry me too.
What was Fancy having a hard time with, pulse, respiration???
Whew, I just figured thier speed, they were flying.
