*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Oh, I'm so sad. I had a nest of barn swallows in the eaves of my house over my garden. They hatched two babies. I have enjoyed sitting out there in the morning with my coffee watching the parents feed the babies. I noticed at the start of this week there was only one baby left. I don't know (but I can guess) what happen. Just now the other one died. I don't know if it fell out of the nest or was trying to fly, but my cat got it:(. I heard the parents making all kinds of noise and looked out and my cat was out there with it in his mouth and the parents where dive bombing him. He ate it. and now the parents are sitting on a windchime right by the nest, looking/sounding so sad:(. Gosh I hate this. I don't know why they keep building there nests there, the cat is always around, and everytime a couple have hatched a batch one or two always fall out and the cat gets them. In the past tho, they've always hatched more then just two...

I just hate sitting in hear listening to the parents....:(

Mack is talking about maybe going to the lake tomorrow for the weekend. But if we stay in town, I'd like to go to the rodeo tomorrow night, and the street dance in town Sat.

Nice pictures Becky.
I don't know who it was, maybe it was Tuffy who wanted to know what things looked like around where I am. Truth be told, it's pretty darn settled around here, but the next time I'm out on the trail I'll certainly bring the camera. Usually when I go on a trail ride it's completely unplanned, so I never get a chance to bring the camera. I SHOULD just keep it tied around my neck at all times!

At any rate, I still can't find the cable to my camera but here are a couple of pictures that I've printed out and scanned back into my computer. (The old fashioned way!)These are black and whites.

This first one is pretty neat, it's an old observatory that people now live in.

This picture is of flower covered wrought iron gate. My apologies, as both pics look a little dark, but I'm too lazy to relighten them and reload them and repost them. :-/

Are you getting eat up alive? I tell ya, we haven't had any trouble with the skeeters till last night...I have been out of the house constantly and never had them bother me until last night...then today I haven't been able to get out of the house at all! Just going out to check the chlorine level in the pool nearly killed me! I just got ate up!

I haven't noticed alot till today when we were out riding. One of the ladies i rode with commented on there being alot of mosquitoes where she lives in Beggs. Bixby after all is a flood zone, they've always been bad around here, with as wet as the spring has been it's not surprising that they are bad. I imagine they sprayed downtown. They usually do for the festival.

Well, I emailed the county...maybe they'll run by here and spray! It really works.

Honestly, felt like nails being driven into me when they'd bite! Downright painful.

LOL...I would imagine, they grow them big in Bixby:)

I think the worst year I ever saw, was the first year we lived in Bixby. You know where that LA Tans place is next to the storeage place on Memorial south of 151st. Well when we first moved here that was a Dairy Queen. That first summer we lived here would have been 1980, we went to the DQ one night, and we were sitting in the car trying to decide if it was worth getting out of the car for because of the mosquitoes. We were watching people go in, one girl in particular, had on a white shirt. From her car to the door her shirt was black with them, and we could see people inside swatting at them....I've never seen them that bad again.

Oh how sad. Sorry about your barn swallows.

Last year I disrupted a nest of some kind of small bird when I was weed-wacking. It was on the ground under brush that I had cut away. The parents fretted around the spot, and I tried to cover the nest with some of the cut branches so it had cover, but crows or something took the baby. It just disappeared. I felt so guilty.

Good morning.

Where is everyone at? It's been very slow here on our thread. I'm hoping everyone is doing exciting things to tell about:)

Good Morning. I go in today to have my wisdom teeth out. I'd rather be riding! I was supposed to have it done yesterday, but they called and canclled JUST as I was walking out the door. (If that's too much information, I'm sorry) :-)

I think around 11. I've got to call her here in a bit.

sigh.....I've been sitting here this morning reading all the threads about the SC ruling yesterday. So depressing. REality, I doubt it will ever effect us as far as our property is concerned..but it does cement the feeling I've had for a long time, that living the American "dream" is just that, a dream. Anything, everything you work for all your life can be taken from you in the instant of a blink of the eye. Scares me for my kids, and grandkids.

I was really appalled when I read about it. It really made me sick. I honestly can't believe that it passed, and it really worries me that it did.

Well, I tell you, I would be willing to go to New London and stand with those people when whoever comes to move them out...IMO, I see that as the only solution. If we wait around and try to change things with votes....I don't see anything being fixed, it's time to take a more aggressive stand.

On a better note, I've got Rusty saddled, I can get him rode before it's time to go get Kristy. See you all later.

I'll make sure to take a shower this morning! I don't know where everyone went!

Today I think we are going to work on fencing. Replace the electric section we think Homer got out of, with mesh.
