*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I finally got to wondering if something was bothering him tack wise. He was acting totally out of character. all bowed up and prancing. But we were almost back when I thought about it.

I also wonder if he just doesn't like other geldings when mares are around...but he was fine the whole time we were at that Memorial day ride. But I hadn't trailered him with Dot that day like I did today. I thought he was a bit possisive a few times at the clinic. I got where Jenny and I just didn't stand next to each other. If that's it tho, he's going to have to get over that crap.

It could be that he was slightly uncomfortable, it could be that he was just feeling 'hot' today.

Bay can certainly be that way, and if he's feeling super 'up' I usually take it as good news. Of course, his dancing and snorting is always within safe limits. My experience with Bay has been that if his tack is bothering him, he's usually on the slow side, not the hot side. Every time I've found him slow and wondered about tack, I've found a cinch rub or something when I got back.

I've wondered why he seems prone to cinch rubs lately, and I've wondered if it's something as simple as his age. My dad complains that his skin has gotten paper thin as he's gotten older, and he cuts and scratches himself easily. Ever noticed a sensitivity in older horses? I've wondered about greasing up the cinch, but I didn't want to attract dirt that would rub worse.

Well knock on wood, cinch sores is one thing I've never had to deal with. I have noticed that it seems some horses just get them, seem more prone to them then otheres. What kind of cinch do you use?

Have you been on Snapfish today? I can't get it to show me any of the thumbnail pictures in any of the albums. I even started a new one for todays pictures, they loaded fine, but when I clicked to see the album I got a white screen. All the albums are doing that.

I just know when Bob's mule got old, he got very prone to cinch rubs also.

Smooth leather English cinch.... it should slide easily. It may be placement, actually, usually if it rubs it's too far forward, or mud has gotten under it.

I know now, how he walks when it's rubbing. He slows down, particularly down hill, and when I got back there was a rub. Next time I won't wonder, I'll stop and know to check it.

Snapfish seems OK to me here.... try clicking 'refresh'. If not, see if closing it and reopening it makes it display properly....

Ok, I turned everything off, and started over and I got it now.

Celia and Jenny, getting ready to leave. We met at Sally's house. She lives about 2 miles as the crow flies from me, but it's like 5 miles by the road.

This was the coolest pond. I had never seen real lilly pads before. The flowers on them were so big and pretty.

Now, I think I'm going to snooze awhile:), we have to go to the Green Corn Festival tonight.

Great! That is a cool pond with the lilly pads. I love the 'between the ears' view!

Were you riding under power line right-of-ways then? We have some of those here I want to check out, they go on and on for miles.

Yeah, some of the riding we did was under power lines. I've ridden under those power lines before, back when the kids were home. It's really spooky on cloudy, overcast days, you can hear them humming. I've always wondered if it was my imagination, but on cloudy days, things feel strange down those trails:). I had ever ventured off the main trail, so I saw alot of the area today around it. We came out one time on a hill that is right above Jenny and Charlie's land. We couldn't see their houses but from other landmarks we could see we know we were right above their land.

I've heard them hum.... some of the really high power ones hum all the time. I remember having a real problem with my mustang getting wiggy under them and deciding not to ever take him there again.

Was that where Harley was wiggy?

No, actually, that's why I got the camera out there, he was going along pretty good. I missed some pictures, because I didn't want to be holding the camera while he was wiggy:)

I was wondering that too. We ran into her down there a couple of years ago on Sat. morning at the frog jumping contests:). And I suddenly remembered we did see them there one time on Thurs night, and I ran into another friend of mine while standing in line for corn with 2J. Turns out my friend was one of the gay ladies that lived across the street from 2J. I hadn't seen her since she divorced her husband, so I didn't know she was the one 2J spoke of occasionally:). I don't know if Tami realized who 2J was.
