This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
No - he'll keep that dun stripe, it's just a color characteristic, and not uncommon... he's a 'red dun'. Many bay and buckskin horses also have a stripe, either darker brown or black.
I look forward to the new pics, and I'll be sure to appreciate how hard you have to fight to get them ;~D
Cyn can't live in WA and have a mud puddle phobia... she'll just have to grin and bear it. :~D
I guess I mean. I keep my horses tied up till they are dry.
Becky
Well, i know I'm just a cowboy, but I'd try spurs....ahhhh!!! spurs. I'm not talking about poking holes in her, just pressure.
Becky
Those are great! The babies look great.
And that is a gorgeous goat. I'd like to have a goat.
Oh and to show you what I know. I thought the white in the pictures was clouds. When your caption said pictures of Mt. Rainer, I had to go back and it took me awhile to figure where it was:), uuuhhhh, that is, did I finally figure it????
Becky
UPS ok?
I asked him if he felt like she was sensitive or if he really had to thump on her, and I had the possibility of spurs in mind.... He said she's pretty soft. If she kept it up, I was going to suggest he carry a crop next time.
We're also going to work on leg-yielding here at home over the next week or two.
Yeah - it's Mount Rainier, partially obscurred by clouds ;~D
Thanks. Adge and Thunder are really doing well. They are both sweet natured which is good for us! : )
Heh... I don't think UPS takes goats ;~D
I've always wanted a goat too. But Mack says they'll jump on the vehichles. But actually I had one for a few days. I bought a baby, just a few days old. He was so cute. But 1. He didn't get enough colosturm, and 2. No one told me he could not have regular milk. Shortly after I got him I knew he was having problems. I kept him in the house and got up every 4 hours to feed him. He was really sick. It was very very early spring so still cold, he'd stand infront of our heater, no joking till his coat was smoking. I had to be careful to keep an eye on him.
I swear the day I thought he was finally going to make it, he seemed better that day then any other he died. Broke my heart. I've never wanted to try again, and Mac won't let me anyway.
Becky
LOL probably not. He's a great goat, but he likes to get in your way and have you noticed the horns? They hurt if you are not quick enough. I was taking the pic of Adge and Billy butted me. That is why the "hoof' pic, but i posted it anyway as it shows the stripes.
I'm going to have a bruise though! Thanks Deaconjim for my present~ : D
Leg yeilding is what I was thinking. Pushing her over into the puddle. Spurs give you a little advantage, as long as you don't forget you have them on:). There just for a more focused pressure.
Becky
That is so sad, I'm sorry he didnt make it.
I got Belle to the vet today. Nothing exciting, I'll get the report tomorrow. The vet did say she wasn't ready to breed yet, probably not till Wed. Her cervix was opening, but not by much.
She said I should bring her back in 15 days after her last cover day. She'll be able to tell if she is in foal, and we will run a progesteron test to make sure she has enough progeteron to carry the foal, then I'll have her checked again at 45 days to make sure she settled, after that it will be smooth sailing.....I really thought when i got the report tomorrow, it would be smooth sailing, now I find out I've still got some hurdles to get over.
Becky
The part tha made me most sad was that I did everything wrong. Not to justify, but I did ask at the ranch I bought him at what to feed him, and they just said all he needs is milk. I did not realize they were talking goats, milk...duh....I should have known.
Becky
Not to really point the blame but the ranch should have given you more details.
