This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Yeah, I know. I thought about it when I was about half way there and just had to smack myself in the head. I'll do better next time, I promise! ;o)
Wonderful pics! And I love your drawing! You really have a talent. As for the back legs in the drawing, I'm leaning towards squaring them up, just because they looked so perfect in every other way. Whatever you decide, please post a picture of the finished work for us to admire. Thanks! :o)
Oh, one more thing about the ride. I've been so used to riding geldings here lately that I wasn't paying as much attention as I should have been when the other gelding, Jake, got a little bit too close to Bluebell when we stopped at a creek to water the horses. She didn't mind Blade getting close, but when Jake looked at her the wrong way she whirled and unloaded on him with both feet before I could say "Boo!". We were all just lucky that she didn't miss and hit the rider. She got Jake in both butt cheeks as it was. I'm definately going to put a red ribbon on her tail the next time I ride her and will be much more careful about her personal space. She's been used to being in a herd of brood mares and has had to take care of herself, so I really can't blame her. I'll just have to watch her little closer the next time and see if I can't nip it in the bud.
:) Remember to get a picture of him next time you are out with the camera.
It sounds like Adge is doing great, and yes, new pictures are in order. :)
the next one of the horses coming to me was obliterated by a big nostril and tounge, courtesy of Adge! Not for posting! : D
Thanks for the dressage pics!
~shakes her head in disappointment.~
We just got back from our trail ride... pics, of course, are uploading!
Post more pics of these babies.... we haven't seen them in awhile!
Looking forward to seeing them! I have posted a few and was going to post some of Sugar and Smokey, who were washed and trimmed and looking great yesterday. NOTE that word yesterday ~sighs~ you should see them both now. Guess they discovered a dusty patch of dirt before they dried. What is it about white horses??
White horses hate being white. ;~D
Believe me I tried. Adge does not like having his photo taken, he just wants to eat the camera and I am not kidding! I will take some next time Deaconjim is working wth him, but this time I was too busy watching and trying to learn something! : )
Maybe I should get some hair dye and oblige them both! LOL I should have taken some photos yesterday but by the time we got through I was hungry!
Did you see the line down Thunders back? He is smooth now but still has this line! Weird.
You can also really see big thick stripes in Adges hoofs now. Very noticable. I know I know, more pics, but I am feeling lazy!
Mt. Rainier in the distance...
The first time Bay passed this white rock he was all snorts and conniption fits, thinking it was some kind of a predator... we tried to show him blowing at it by getting a pic of the second pass, but he was better the second time around.
It's real different to ride through the logged areas, where you can really see the lay of the land.
Below, that furthest green hill you can see is Capital Peak, the highest point in the forest, and where we'd like to eventually be in good enough shape to get to. It's a 30 mile round trip.
Felt good to be back in the cool damp shade ;~D
Here's ecurbh and Cyn working on the mud puddle phobia... She didn't take him off through the brush once today, he stopped and made her walk it. We'd been talking about how to drive her forward better.
Here she was still evading around the edges...
But here she walked it, with a nice head down obedience I might add... she was much better toward the end.
The stripe down his back is called a 'dun' stripe.
Great pictures, they are looking good.
