This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I finally got caught up with the new thread. I was out of pocket over the weekend and it's been wild here at work ever since. I'm glad you reposted Truly and Ellie's picture. I liked it too. Thanks!
Goodmorning! I will be checking in and out all day.
I didn't know that. I jut had the vet out for the horses' yearly shots, will check and see if the vet included rabies.
What part of Texas are you in (sorry for dangling participle) :^D
What has happened there... did he miss is steer?
The big red barn is out in front by the road and off to the left of the house...
I zoomed in a little more for this one so you could see a little more detail...
Thankyou so much Frog! Second home.........Argh! It's beautiful! James came and got me and said i would be pi##@d at something you posted to me! LOL
Oh it makes me want the mountains and a log home SO much! : D
Ps. Forgot to say, I WANT that barn! : )
I have Ace but I'd never recommend that to a novice horseman because the reactions can sometimes be unpredictable. There is the occassional horse that goes bonkers with it. It's always my drug of last choice.
My understanding on rabies is that it has to be given by a vet so that the records are available - I'm not sure how it works there and with horses.
Nice cowboys :)
Yeah, it's that way in Alabama too. The vet supply catalogs have a whole list of states that they won't ship rabies vaccines to, so you could tell that way. My vet won't even let me take a rabies vaccine home with me and give it myself. He says he wants to perform the vaccination so that he knows that it was properly given in case there is any problem. I can't blame him coz it'd be his butt that'd be on the line if the horse turned up with rabies.
Well I guess you answered my question on why the vet wouldn't give it to me.
You might want to ask him about EPM. I vaccinate all mine for that too. I've had a couple of friends lose horses to that.
What is it?
Who is here that isn't on the banned list?
You guys are making my head swim with all this talk of deciding on vaccines. There are probably many instances where I just follow my veterinarian's lead (and it has nothing to do with him being cute) and which vaccines, in which combinations, and from what company is definately one of them. Heck... I'm not qualified. I don't know what they need, I've never had a horse catch any of these diseases, nor really known anyone who has... save strangles...
I'm giving what the vet says they need but I'm in charge this time. There won't be another occasion when my horses gets sick and I don't know what they have been vaccinated for. I'm trying to save a little money and learn some stuff too (grin).
And my vets definately not cute but baldness does have it's own charm:')
