*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

A nap this afternoon may be in order:)

But there is so much to get done around here by Thurs. so I can start riding again then:). I figure he can rest till then.

Harley is down at my son's I have to go pick him up, I have to unpack the RV, and the grass grew alot while I was gone, it rained alot. And the garden needs to be weeded badly. I've got to get hold of the vet to get a shot for Belle, and get her breed this week, so I can take her back to the pasture.

I plan on giving my self two days to catch up on all the household chores, (How does that stuff get behind with no one home), Then I have to get very dedicated about riding 3 horses at least 4 times a week.

"Well Tuffydoodle, you gonna come out and play? lol"

I've been playing on the Michael Jackson threads. I learned some stuff that I didn't know, I guess I should have watched the trial more closely. He had a painting in his bedroom that was totally bizarre.

PHEW!!! You're wearing ME out, just reading about your workload.

Hopefully hubby will be home from work early enough today so we can go finish trimming feet. Did 3 Sunday. Got so burned my arms feel 'bruised'. LOL! Guess I'll sneak some of the horses' sunblock this time.

Our 14 yo has a job lined up working with racehorses. So, I'm 'making' her catch, lead, hold each horse for Dad. She wasn't impressed having to handle Rei. But I told her she had to get used to big horses, cuz I'm sure a racehorse is a lot bigger! (Rei's @16hh and massive, but sweet and obedient) All 3 did well. LOL! (Rei and Mark have 'issues' about trimming.)

Didn't know what happened to you. I'm staying away from those threads. The munchkins are all asleep. It's so peaceful around here.I love these little ones dearly but they are little energizer bunnies(with a built in charger).... My husband and I have been fighting about the horses. I want to keep them here longer. He says we can't afford it. He's moaning about how far it's going to be now and I won't want to make that trip. Honey can speak for himself. 5 pm Friday and a long peaceful drive to a low noise place in the country sounds good to me. I should have been a truck driver:')

Hey tuffy.

I thought about you and your daughter while I was in TX. I'm not promoting it this place necessarily to get you to run barrels, but you and your daughter ought to go to one of those clinics since your relativily close to the place. You'd have a blast. There were a lot of mother/daughters there. I think you'd like it.

You've got the little ones, huh? I need to find more activities for mine, they are getting a little bored.

I'm with you on that long peaceful drive, I've always enjoyed that. I like watching the scenery.

Can you and your husband compromise by keeping one horse there and taking the other to the new place?

I was just fixing to post to you. Did you like the clinic? What did you think about Martha Josey? I wonder how long it would take to get there from the DFW area?

I rented an indoor arena once a week, my oldest daughter takes Winnie, my second to youngest daughter takes George and I take Tuffy. I thought George was going to be a pain since he hasn't been ridden at all in a year or more but he was the best of the bunch. My daughter that rides him, Melissa, can't ride at all, she's just learning, and George has that pony mentality so I was really worried. I shouldn't have, though, he was an angel and took great care of her. Out of all the horses I've bought, I think I got the most for my money from George.

I loved the clinic.

This place of any business, not just horses, that I have been exposed too, is the most organized, informative, friendly knowledgeable staffed operation I have ever seen. I can't say enough. Both Martha and her husband were always around and took a big part in instructing. There were very seasoned barrel racers there all the way down to beginner riders, and they all were given equal time with the instructors. I think you get more then your moneys worth, and if anyone can make it to one, barrel racer or not they should try to go. I don't know why everyone in TX. hasn't been there:).

That's an idea but I don't want to split them up. I think it would be very lonely being an only horse.

Wow, what a glowing recommendation. The thing I like about Martha Josey is, on her tapes, she doesn't focus just on running barrels, she talks about taking it easy, just loping circles, etc. Most of the barrel racers I knew years ago, including me, all we did was run once we got into an arena. Wrong thing to do, that's for sure.

I'll be back in a little bit, I'm going to take 3 of my dogs to the dog cleaners.

How is the area behind you going up? I was thinking the other day that you ought to "meet" this neighbor:')

They really did preach about NOT EVER "running" the pattern at home, only at a competition. They gave us all kinds of slow exercises to do at home to keep the horse working good, but will help to keep from blowing his brain up. They also gave us ways to work on problems the horse might develop, trying to turn to soon, going to wide, etc. Most problems are the rider, but horses do anticipate what's coming, and might try to just do it on their own, not waiting for the cues.

...I've seen a massage demonstration... a lady doing something called T touch or P touch, or something...

I've seen her too. Her name is Linda Tellington-Jones and it's T Touch, I guess because of the "T" in her name. Her methods may work, but they sure look funny. ;o)

This is a better picture of the tack store then the one I posted last night. I didn't mention to you, the place is beautiful too.

The upstairs of their old barn has been turned into a trophy room Probably 50 trophy saddles in there. at the right the line of white pipe fencing, are stalls for all the students horses.
