This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Is this something that happens just with boots or a trailer risk regardless?
Great pictures, I'm so glad you had such a great experience!
Waiting for more!
I'm still loading. 6 at a times seems to work faster then going the full 12 at a time. alot of my pictures are family pictures that you guys aren't interested in seeing. I'm getting to some good ones now. Our run on Fri.
I'm really disappointed. Those blankety blank rechargable batteries I bought crapped out on us, both sets, about 30 minutes before our Sun. runs:(. Travis got all three of us on video, but we didn't get any pictures. They were fully charged just didn't hold it...
It would have been nice to see the difference between Fri. and Sun. run. They had a video man there too. I can order a copy of my two runs in normal speed and slomo for $35....seems a bit steep. I got to see Fri run that he took. I hate to pay money for that memory:)

Here, Cyn is wearing the 14" boots, and Bay is wearing the 16" boots I originally bought for him to use in the back... but he's wearing them on his fronts.
As far as I'm concerned, their function is to protect the lower leg from the horses walking on themselves or each other.
I dunno.... you don't think you'd enjoy having the video to learn from?
What was the thing you feel most improved about? What are you doing different now that you didn't know before?
Are yo having trouble with snapfish. 2 times now my loading has stopped after a while, and now I can't get it to open at all.
Is there a limit to how many pictures you can put in one album?
Becky
I usually start a new album at 40-50 pics.... but I don't think there's any hard limit.... and no, I didn't have trouble getting to the boot pic just now.
Lithium ion batteries from energizer really do the trick. They last a long time, but they aren't rechargable.
One, I know now, where you start rateing them down at each barrel, I know where my hands are suppose to be, where you start your turns from, and mostly, I got alot more comfortable asking him to speed up. I was kicking from the start to the first barrel and between each barrel. I got better and staying in my seat around the barrel. I got a lot of compliments on him and how well he worked. They told me I needed to trust him more, that he was a good horse:)
I got a new bit too. I'm going to keep using the long shank snaffle I was using for working at home, but use the new one for competing. Which I plan on starting to do next Tues.:). Keep the momentum going.
Becky
What's the new bit?
I can't get it to load at all.
Becky
Dang! This is a bad time for technical difficulties!
When in doubt.... reboot.
My long shank snaffle had put too much pressure on just his mouth. he kept breaking down to a trot on the turns. This spreeds the pressure out more, and he kept going on the turns. It looks like a lot of bit, but they said it was actually easier on them then what I was using. I actually learned tho, that Harley will slow down with no pressure, except me rolling back some on my butt, and he'll turn with inside leg pressure and very little help with the reins. That's hard to remember tho when you speed up. I tend to get to pulling to much if I forget to think about what I'm doing. Becky
Is that a twisted wire snaffle? Hard to see in the shadow.
I'm surprised they'd recommend that for you, though I've seen them and half the pressure is on his nose, like a side-pull.
Her time that day was a 23.9. Sun. she ran a 19.3.
This is my 3rd barrel on Fri. I had a 25.6 that day and a 22.1 on Sun.
This is Kristy's 1st barrel. She ran a 18.9 and Fri. and 18.2 on Sun. The fastest this weekend was 17.1

Those are very cool. Is this the first time you've been officially timed on a full sized course? Did everyone watch everyone else and hoot? Did they stop and discuss and critique after each run?
oh - and did they run each of you before any 'lesson' to see where you were at, or had you had some exercises and instruction first?
Those are some great pictures. Is it common to put barrel horses in twisted wire bits? What's usually used?
