*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Thanks Duchess:)

OK, here's a few.

This is the trailer we hauled in:

This is a picture of the "old" barn. Now the upstairs part is Martha's trophy room and where we had our welcome meeting, where we watched our videos of our first runs, and church yesterday afternoon. Right to the right, where you see the white pipe, tha was where our horses were stalled. The had a double row of pipe, 12x12 covered stalls, probably about 120 all together. There where 104 students start this clinic.

This is looking from the end of the "Main" (out door) arena, The roof at the back in the covered arena. They had 3 arena's all together. We were broke up into 4 groups, by age so the girls and I were all together. There were 25 in our group. Each group worked in a different area all day. Fri, we worked from 10-10. Sat. from 8-8, and yesterday from 7-2, then we had our final run from 4-6.

Beautiful trailer. Boy, she has a nice set up there. Does she do a lot of clinics?

Where we parked was way at one end. When we looked towards the arenas from our camp site this is what we were looking at.

Our campsite, We parked so that the awning on the trailer, and the awning on the RV faced each other. In the mornings we sat under the RV, in the evenings the trailer:)

She does several a year, and she also travels all over the country and gives clinics. She is going to be here in OK this summer for like a 2 1/2 day clinic. She has a web site you can find out about them.

They have a tack store, and restruant next door to the arena, I'll have pictures of it later.

I'm not kidding if you, The place is beautiful. But more important is the fact that anyone could learn at one of these things. We had a lady in our group who was a very very beginner rider. I don't know that I would reccommend a barrel clinic to such a beginner, but even with her, you could see vast improvement in her riding EVERY time she went around the barrels. Her run on Fri was done at a walk, and by Sun. she loped a little and cut her time down by 41 seconds. Every time it was her turn to do anything the instructors worked with her so well. They never seemed impatient to be working with some one so green.

Even if you don't want to run barrels, this thing would benefit anyone. Once ayear they have a 7 day clinic. They do alot more there then just barrels. Once you've been a student there you can also go once a year to a big reunion where they have a big barrel race.

At these 3 day clinics they give a very nice saddle away, and about 25 halters. My girls both won a halter on Sun. run.

I think the friendliness of all the workers, and the organization of this place is just incredible. It really is being run first class. The "newest" employee they had there had been there for like 10 years. And Martha and her husband were always around, and actually did alot of the instructing. It was miserably hot and humid there the whole time, and she always had a long sleeve western shirt and black cowboy hat. I don't know how she did it. She's probably in her late 60. And she still competes. She would have went to the NFR last year but she got hurt bad right before and didn't make it.

This trailer belongs to my daughters father in law. None of us had a trailer that would haul 3 horses, and this saved us having to take so many vehicles. Charlie, Kristy and JP slept in the front of the trailer, it has AC, and the rest of us slept in the RV. It worked out very well.

I think that things should go well. She said that they're average. Mine are causing me lots of grief, which is the only reason why I'm going through with it. I usually have a very high tolerance for pain, but I just can't tolerate it anymore! :-)

While Becky loading pictures ( awesome stuff) can I ask yall about horsre boots? I'm ordering two sets tonight and they go from 20-12o dollars and 14 to 20 inches. Does the height matter. The cheapest look too hot to me.

It's really great to be able to attend something so well organized and run. They must be very nice folks at heart. Wish I were ten years younger, I'd love to go to something like that. Physically, I'd not make it now.

Are you talking about shipping boots? Just get the kind that wrap around and velcro. I think they are usually nylon with a lining.

Yesterday, after the church service they held was over they drew names for some prizes and my name was drawn for a print of their 2005 advertising poster. Then all the students went out in the arena for a group picture. After the picture Martha and R.E. stood out in the blazing sun for over an hour signing autographs for every one. I got their auto graph on the poster:). They really do seem like very very nice, honestly caring people. And RE is a hoot.

He talked at the welcome meeting and told some very cute jokes about Martha. He said once she told him she wanted to go eat somewhere they hadn't ate in a looooonnnnnggggg time. He said how about the kitchen:). Then he asked her what she made for supper and she said reservations:). They were so cute. And it didn't seem put on at all. And all the instructors were just as pleasent.

Horse boots like shipping boots?
You want the boot to go from the bottom of the knee to covereing the coronet band (Very Important) and for backs, going from the hock to again covering the coronet band, if we're talking about shipping boots. It's important to cover the coronet band, because if the horse were to grab himself with the back hoof on his lower front leg by the coronet band while in the trailer, he could grab the major artery and bleed to death before you figured it out.
