For deep & profound conservative ideas, I suggest you turn to Victor Davis HansonI also enjoy VDH, but I see no need to choose between the two.
I like them BOTH, for different reasons.Still, I would bet that if the imaginary Jack Ryan were to ever find himself in a nasty "verbal knife fight," he would GREATLY prefer having Ann watching his back. :o)
but my friends and i were priviledged to get ourselves in a video with ann :o)
you know my friend the "democrat" you all met last night? well, i'm trying to do a documentary with him.
he's a bit of a hard head, but that's going to be part of the running bit in the documentary--you know, how economically left leaning types just drone on their way in life without regard to reason.
i may use some of the footage of you guys talking to him. if you don't wamy me to, let me know. <>you all did GREAT in speaking with him.
he's actualy conservative on social issues, but then he subordinates his conservative views on abortion, gay marriage, quotas and preferences, etc., to his wacky economic views.
i've known him since i was 15 years old.
please "work on him" some more if he comes to any other events. rondog, is there a list of freepers who attended the show and the following party?
That's why she was just on the cover of time magazine, after coming off of several best sellers, huh?
i noticed on your profile page that you say you went to high school with her, but you never went out with her. Did she turn you down for a date?
i won't spend much time refuting your other envy-based jabs at an coulter because i don't want to engage in intellectual battle with an obviously un-armed foe.
Retired General Anthony Zinni is one of the most respected and outspoken military leaders of the past two decades. But WHY is he described as by CBS "most respected", a term RARELY used by the mainstream media to refer to military personnel?
But Zinni broke ranks with the administration over the war in Iraq, and now, in his harshest criticism yet, he says senior officials at the Pentagon are guilty of dereliction of duty -- and that the time has come for heads to roll. ... Now, in a new book about his career, co-written with Tom Clancy, called "Battle Ready," Zinni has handed up a scathing indictment of the Pentagon and its conduct of the war in Iraq. That's called being a whore to sell books to the leftists, folks. Such a quote to American media is GIVING COMFORT TO THE ENEMY WHILE WE ARE AT WAR. Nothing less.
I was in the front row, too. Haven't had TV since '96. Did anyone TIVO it, or at least the parts where the audience appears? Is it possible to email or post somewhere?
I own all of VDH's books and most of Ann's.
I agree there is no reason to prefer one to the other. I like steak and I love fast food. Depends on what I have the time for and what my mood is. It's easy to get emotional bolstered and motivated by a chapter by one of Ann's books. By contrast, the chapters in VDH's "Culture and Courage" is not meant to be motivational, but to make a specific point about the advantages of the Western mindset in military thinking.
VDH is the undisputed greatest living American military historian. He is a scholar and not particularly energetic on radio or TV. Ann is verbal Benihana... delicious AND entertaining. She is not a scholar like VDH but she excels in the kind of sound bites that people remember and talk about.
She is an excellent ambassador for Conservatives but I don't even she thinks of herself as a scholar whose works might be read by other scholars 50 or 100 years from now.
For the record, VDH remains a registered Democrat but has no connection to them on foreign policy.
I had empathy for Ann last night. Major League Baseball players are exhausted by a 162-game season. Ann's 2005 schedule is AT LEAST as demanding.
My guess is that after 2-3 days of keeping her current pace, any of us would lose weight and beg for rest, too. Ann can't appear cranky or else her liberal foes would seize on that. How many of us could do what she does for as long or 1/10th as well and not be cranky?!? In the meantime, Ann has to leverage her recent Time cover exposure while she can... it's not likely to ever happen again. Outside of Rush has any conservative pundit appeared on two covers of Time since 1980?
Anyone who felt slighted by not getting "enough of Ann" last night needs to reassess their opinions.
Frankly, Ann's writing and speaking does more for all of us than hanging out with us.
We were lucky. I am grateful. And THANK YOU RONDOG for helping coordinate this!
Hey... I'm kinda partial to being some kind of combination of Gimli and Gandalf.
:-)
Jack Ryan? The politician who took his wife to the sex clubs?
Main Entry: Great Britain
Pronunciation: 'bri-t&n
Variant(s): or Britain
Usage: geographical name
1 island W Europe comprising England, Scotland, & Wales area 88,150 square miles (228,300 square kilometers), population 53,917,000
That's very close to what I was THINKING.
Scotland is not England, nor is England part of Scotland. Wales is not England etc. All consider themselves separate nations existing in one nation-state of the United Kingdom.
There's that and the fact that Craig Ferguson himself told a guest last week (Friday, I think) that he is Scottish not British.
They were talking about having to do different accents in their work and the guest said he could never do Craig's British accent. Craig said, that's okay I can't do a British accent either, because I'm Scottish.
My daughter's Scottish friend gets very upset if someone refers to his accent as British.
But thanks for participating. I assume you went to all this trouble just to try and get in on the bashing because I think Coulter is a smart ass. So you get an "A" for effort.
Okay?
Here's the desktop version:
Why is that you guys think all women who disagree with another one are jealous? That's junior high level garbage.
She's an obnoxious loud mouth who does not do conservative women any favors.
Tell me something. Do know many men who would like to be married to such a mouthy broad? Could you live with that? Somehow I doubt it.
If she wasn't tall and blonde, but looked like say Susan Estrich you would think she was the biggest b**** in town.
She wears those mini skirts and you guys simply lose your minds.
For the record. I was voted most beautiful in my high school AND I was an honor grad.
Ann doesn't intimidate me one bit.
Oh, and about that unarmed foe comment of yours?
I wouldn't dare try to argue with a person who doesn't know how to form full sentences and use capital letters.
Ciao darling.
I did not watch the show (don't watch tv anymore...) and I don't think Ann is going to be in the next issue of Victoria's Secret catalog (which my wife thoughfully came in an hour ago and gave to me...:)
That said, I admire and respect what Ann Coulter has done. As an example, I use her analysis of the slander of Joseph McCarthy. I drank the "Kool-Aid" of the historical version of what Joseph McCarthy did. I thought he was something our country should be embarassed about. And I felt that way, because all I ever heard about him was what the media wanted me to hear, and what the schools taught me.
After I listened to her analysis, it inspired me to explore the subject on my own. I obtained the transcripts of the hearings, read books on the subject that were not written by those who have a predetermined opinion about him. I read multiple books on the Venona Files.
And you know what? After looking at alternative (to the left's opinions) analyses of Joseph McCarthy and that time frame, I believe her version is far closer to the truth than what I have been spoon fed my entire life. And believe me, I have taken the time to look at the information.
As a result, I believe Joseph McCarthy was an American hero who sacrificed his name, and ultimately his life to buy precious time for our country.
The fact that Ann Coulter has pointed me to the path to make my own conclusion on this one subject speaks volumes about the depth of her analysis. Particularly when you place her analysis next to that of the people who want to demonize McCarthy.
Ann, we all owe you. You show us how to stand up to the Libs...by hitting them with the facts, speaking the unspeakable and impeaching the unimpeachable. The liberals have shown us they cannot carry on a civilized discourse, and the conservatives have largely just sat back and taken it. Ann is showing us the way to stand up and stop "being afraid of being labelled by liberals" because that is what they do. To many liberals, Conservatives are Bigots. Conservatives are Racist. Conservatives are Sexist. All conservatives want to kill the poor and eat them for lunch. Ann throws that nonsense right back in their faces, and does it unapologetically.
So, yes, we can agree to disagree. I have no problem with that. But I don't like Ann Coulter because of her mosquito bites. I like her the same way that I like Phyllis Schlafly, Margaret Thatcher and Condoleeza Rice and Jean Kirkpatrick. These are women who don't need feminism bullshit. They can stand on their own two feet without the "feminist" crutch to ward off criticism. Those are MY kind of women. (For the record, I do find Condoleeza sexier than Ann...:)
You are certainly obsessed with Ann aren't you. Do you not understand his point?
He went to high school with her and he doesn't care for her.
Thanks for your thoughtful post. I just don't get the Coulter adoration.
I often wonder how many of these guys would actually marry such a mouthy broad.
Please. Not Euro-Pansies. I believe the term is "sitzpinklers" over there...:)
