For those who have seen Epsiode 3, will there be a 3 1/2? Click though to comments... I don't want to post my spoilers where those who have not seen it will see....
I wish somebody besides Lucas will go back and redo the whole Star War's saga and do it right.
I have heard him say that he doesn't like doing stories at the beginning but in the middle. Well, dude, that is not really smart for now, your whole Star Wars story is full of inconsistincies. Some dots do not connect.
arggh..I don't know what to think about this whole thing. It seems to me a major letdown.
Regarding that... obviously, Obi-Wan does know of Leia's exsitence. He sees no hope in her, though, because she is a politician (Senator). Remember his deep dislike and mistrust of all politicians from Ep. II. Yoda disagrees, I guess.
I remember when the first one came out in the 1970's there was talk about seven movies total.............. I was only 10 years old, don't know if it ever was only a rumor. But then - we got six of them now!
I feel cheated. The movie wasn't THAT bad, but truthfully the prequels as a whole, including Ch.3, ruined, or at least soiled, the original series.
I had the opportunity to see the original SW today. I've seen it probably a 8 - 12 times now, and this was the first time I came away slightly disappointed. Several reasons have already been discussed, particularly the inconsistencies in the force. Why didn't Darth sense Leia's possession of force, when we know that she has it strongly? Why didn't he recognize that she was his daughter, when he could recognize Luke? As a matter of fact, Padme was clearly made up to look like Leia did (i.e., hair) in the original SW, and he didn't have the notion that he might be his long lost?
Here's soemthing even more offensive. Obi Wan was made into a liar! When he and Luke were first talking in Obi Wan's cave, he told Luke:
1 - Your father wanted you to have this light saber. (I can forgive this as a little white lie.)
2 - Luke says Uncle Owen told him that Anakin was a navigator on a freighter. Obi Wan replies that Owen never approved of Anakin's philosophies and tried to dissuade him from going off to fight in the clone wars... We know now that Anakin only even knew Owen for a few days, and this was AFTER he was already a Jedi apprentice! What purpose would Obi Wan have for lying about this?
3 - Luke says that the droids (R2 and C3PO) must belong to Obi Wan, and he says "I don't remember ever owning any droids." This was an innocent comment until the prequels came along and turned it into a misleading half-lie. As much time as Obi Wan spent with them, particularly in Chapter 3, he should have showed some recognition of them. Obviously, these two droids didn't belong in the prequel stories, at least in such large roles, but Lucas decided they were required for the "cute" factor, and for selling more toys.

Not only all of that, but the entire Mon Mothma/Birth of the Rebellion subplot was cut from the movie. If there was to be an Episode 3 and 1/2 they NEED to put her, Bail Organa (who had a minor role in Episode 3) and Garm bel Iblis back in.
I also saw Episode 4 directly after 3.
The instant I saw Ben tell Luke Anakin wanted him to have the lightsaber, I thought, Ben lied to him to get him on side. He knew Luke was the key to overthrowing the Empire and it was a convenient way to place emotional pressure on him to take an active part in the rebellion.
Remember, in the same scene Ben lied to Luke, telling him Darth Vader killed Anakin.
On the Episode 3 1/2 issue, I think there is heaps of scope for an in between story. It could introduce the character of Hans Solo, and how he came to partner Chewbucca, and how he came to be indebted to Jabba the Hut, and the conversations Ben Kenobe had with the ghost of his former mentor (given Yoda taught him this power), not to mention Luke and Leia's upbringing.
