...explaining United States policy on how the military handles the Koran...
Anyone who should be on or off The Guild ping list please freepmail me, my up to date list was eaten by the old computer.
Speaking of journalistic fraud:
MARY Mapes the disgraced CBS News producer fired for using phony documents in a pre-election story trashing President Bush is unrepentant and still claiming her forged National Guard memos are real. Mapes stood behind Dan Rather Monday as he accepted a Peabody Award for their "60 Minutes II" story, "Abuse at Abu Ghraib." Afterward, she told the Broadcasting & Cable trade journal that CBS News never investigated whether the disputed facts behind the National Guard story were, in fact, true. "They made a corporate decision, not a journalistic one," she said. (Page Six)
LOL! Is that Isikoff?!
I like this man...
ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) - The owner of two Kentucky theaters has refused to show the new Jane Fonda film "Monster-in-Law" because of the activist role the actress took during the Vietnam War.
Ike Boutwell, who trained pilots during the Vietnam War, displayed pictures of Fonda clapping with a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft crew in 1972 outside the Elizabethtown Movie Palace to show his disapproval. The marquee outside Showtime Cinemas in nearby Radcliff reads: "No Jane Fonda movie in this theater."
Both theaters are just a few miles from the Army post of Fort Knox, south of Louisville.
"I think when people do something, they need to be held responsible for their actions," Boutwell said. "When you give the enemy aid, it makes the war last longer."
Fonda has apologized for being photographed on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun, but not for opposing the war.
"Monster-in-Law" raked in more than $23 million last weekend as the top-grossing movie across the country, according to Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. and Nielsen EDI Inc. In the film, Fonda plays Jennifer Lopez's villainous prospective mother-in-law, trying to stop Lopez from marrying her son.
Sal Mancuso, an Elizabethtown resident, said he personally thanked Boutwell for not showing the film.
"I think Vietnam veterans appreciate this," said Mancuso, who fought in the Mekong Delta during the Vietnam war. "There is no defense for what she did."
Boutwell also banned previous Jane Fonda films, as well as Michael Moore's film, "Fahrenheit 9/11."

... But it is offensive to see the Bush administration use this case for political purposes, and ludicrous for spokesmen for this White House and Defense Department to offer pious declarations about accountability, openness and concern for America's image abroad...
Nope. It's all the Pentagon's fault for not disavowing the story before they published it.
"They made a corporate decision, not a journalistic one," she said.
Well, duh. Mary Mapes, master of the obvious.
A real-life supermom used a bottle of breast milk to douse an amputee yesterday after his wheelchair was set ablaze by punks on a Staten Island bus, cops said. The nursing mother's fast actions helped save Vietnam vet Francis Abrams, 57, from becoming a human torch, and stopped the fire from engulfing the S-54 bus, police and the victim said.
"It was put out with breast milk," said a police source, who was awed by the bizarre incident that happened just after 11 a.m.
Abrams, who lost his left leg in Vietnam, said he was minding his own business as he rode the city bus to the Staten Island Mall to buy a video of "The Exorcist." Just after he boarded the bus, three teens playing hooky from Tottenville High School pulled a cruel prank, cops said. "They set my chair on fire," an angry Abrams said last night, refusing to allow photographers to take pictures of his face. "They thought it was a joke."
Cops said the teens used a cigarette lighter to ignite a plastic bag hanging from the back of Abrams' motorized wheelchair. The flames quickly engulfed the bag, containing the Greek classics "Odyssey" and "Iliad."
As the fire spread to Abrams' jacket, he screamed: "Water!"
As her baby looked on, the new mom and a friend sprang into the action, dousing the fire with a freshly pumped bottle of breast milk and another bottle of water, authorities said.
The back of Abrams' wheelchair was slightly melted by the fire, but he was not harmed thanks to the nursing mother. ... rest of story
Interesting that the NYT's would use these particular words to describe others.
Thanks for playing Ward...
Cherokee band says Churchill's claim of membership a fraud
Ward Churchill's claim of membership in the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians is fraudulent, according to a scathing statement released by the tribal office.
The statement, issued May 9 in the name of the tribal leader, Chief George Wickliffe, and posted on its Web site Tuesday, does not mince words:
"The United Keetoowah Band would like to make it clear that Mr. Churchill IS NOT a member of the Keetoowah Band and was only given an honorary 'associate membership' in the early 1990s because he could not prove any Cherokee ancestry."
The tribe said that all of Churchill's "past, present and future claims or assertions of Keetoowah 'enrollment,' written or spoken, including but not limited to; biographies, curriculum vitae, lectures, applications for employment, or any other reference not listed herein, are deemed fraudulent by the United Keetoowah Band." More
Not only that, he has NO musical talent.
What? Not that kind of band? Never mind.
To my mind, the most egregious element of the Newsweek affair is the ongoing reporting. I've only seen one article that related the KNOWN FACT that al Queda trains its terrorists to make just such allogations for propaganda purposes.
For the life of me, I'll never understand the American press.
And, he's ugly,,, in so many ways.

No invite for Katie:
May 18, 2005 -- FORMER "Today" executive producer Tom Touchet wasn't disliked by all at the NBC show just Katie Couric. To show his love and appreciation, "Today" co-anchor Matt Lauer held a private dinner for Touchet last week at Primavera on First Avenue. "It was held in a private room," said our spy. "Al [Roker] and Ann [Curry] were invited [but could not make it], and all the top brass came. Everyone but Katie, who was not invited." A rep for "Today" said: "This dinner was a casual and informal dinner with Matt, Tom and a few 'Today' staffers. Al, Ann and Katie had nothing to do with it and all wish Tom well."
May 18, 2005 -- "EUROPE is dying. Europe is in shackles. There is unemployment in double digits and zero growth." That was just one of Jack Welch's pronouncements yesterday at breakfast at '21' as Charlie Rose peppered him with questions in front of a crowd that included Ed Koch, Mario Cuomo, Georgette Mosbacher, William O'Shaughnessy, Kenneth Cole, Robert Zimmerman, Muriel Siebert, Cartier president Stanislas de Quercize and former Giants coach Allie Sherman. "Neutron Jack," who turned General Electric into the world's best-run company, also said: "Outsourcing is good for the American economy . . . I can see no basis for the euro being stronger than the dollar. The dollar has come up 15 percent in the last three weeks alone! . . . The U.S. economy is hot! The idea it isn't is crap! The media is the one that is portraying that the economy is dying and in crisis. The dollar will get back and regain its strength." Question from the floor: "What should Steinbrenner do about Jason Giambi?" Welch: "George Steinbrenner should fire Jason Giambi's ass, and get his ass off that team!" [PageSix]
Must see!!!!
