they entire new generation of consoles are all coming out with both 1080 down to 480 standard out of the box. It is of course up to developers to take advantage of this.

However, if the PS3 can run 1080p . . .Even scarier, it can run two HD displays at once (not sure if at full 1080p). Hence, you can have a 32:9 aspect ratio game experience....
