"What are the odds that this guy owns a pitbull or three?"

My guess is that he owns a French Poodle or two, neatly trimmed.

Yeah this is art expression, but a 10 commandments monument is offensive.

While I do not find this offensive ( because I'm not the one who has to explain this to the kids !! ) I have to say that your point is the most important one expressed here !!!!

I'm reminded (for some reason) of a famous quote by Mae West.

(in best Mae West voice)
"My left leg is Christmas. My right leg is New Years. Why don't you come see me between the holidays"

Like immigration laws, what's the point of obscenity laws? Neither one is ever enforced.

I've seen this guy's work before. His usual medium is blue or black ink on the stalls of rest area men's rooms.

Looks like Carl Sandburg has some competition as the cultural icon of Hendersonville!

"Sculpture of Women's Legs Spread in Front of Main Street in NC Town"

A lot of you guys think this is funny, and while I do, too, I think it is a sign of how decadent and complacent we have become as a society.

We are also creeping, step by step, toward becoming a society that worships sex -- as enshrined in our entertainment, movies, art, and recreation.

A sculpture like the one above is no different than the statues carved by pagan primitive societies that show men and women with exagerated genitalia. We view those and think, "what a primitive society!" but we demonstrate that we are no more advanced when we let these "works of art" enter our mainstream.

Worship of sex usually is one step along the road to cultural disintegration. For those of you who want to know more, check out Dennis Prager's website, his audio tapes, and his books.

Wow. That's all I can say.

It's hard to imagine this being in North Carolina--I stayed there for a while on a long cross-country trip and met my first boyfriend's Grandma in Rocky Mount.

And yes, we had to sleep in separate bedrooms. :)

This is Henderson, in Vance County, about 50 miles north of Raleigh near the Virginia border, not Hendersonville.

Cue up Gilda Radner, then... never mind.

Oh yeah. I should have read a little more closely. Well, I'm glad that this blight is not on Hendersonville, anyway.

Oddly enough, the sex worshippers claim that they are "progressive".

This is regressive behavior, back to the days of pagan worship and animal instincts.

Henderson NC is in the North Central part of the state. Hendersonville is in Western NC.

In case anyone wants the url for the article.

I'm pretty appalled by this, but since I have been given the mantle for the art ping, here goes.

Ping. If you want on or off the art ping list, let me know. Sam Cree is away for a couple of weeks, so I'm filling in to keep you all up to date on art sightings.

For some reason, we keep getting pretty disgusting "bad" art on this site, but when the semester is done, I'll try to post some more positive art news.

Right you are, Tax. Just remember the Book of Proverbs -- "There is nothing new under the sun." Today's progressives think they are blazing new ground in their advocacy but we know better.

Environmentalism -- earth worship

Abortion -- child sacrifice, just like the ancient god Molech

Rampant sexuality -- Roman orgies (look where it got them!)

Homosexuality -- Sodom and Gomorrah

Both city and county officials said they have received complaints, but their zoning laws do not apply.

The Vance County district attorney told NBC-17 state obscenity laws may stick, but he has more important crimes to worry about.

Perhaps a parental outcry to the Vance County District Attorney's Office is in order.

One can truly build the case that it was the obsessive need for self-gratification that contributed most significantly to the fall of the Roman Empire.
