Lazamataz's Opus: No longer a Republican (Vanity)
Now | Me

Posted on 04/26/2005 7:27:21 AM PDT by Lazamataz

Well, they went and did it.

The Republicans look like they will wimp out, not exercise the so-called Nuclear Option, and Harry Reid will PERMIT two judges to be approved and disapprove four others. Does anyone think for a second the Democrats won't "go nuclear" in a heartbeat if the roles were reversed?

This seals the deal for me. I am a Republican no more. It seems it does not matter if I vote Republican anyways, all I get is more liberalism. I am a man without a political party. I am a conservative without a home.

Between Bushes enthusiastic embrace of illegal immigration, and our party's inability to get even moderately conservative judges approved, what's the freakin' point of voting Republican any more? What's the point of voting? I will get liberalism no matter how I vote. My main issue is guns, and it appears the Democrats have learned their lesson on that one, so it appears I will be safe on the firearms front. Everything else the Republicans stand for, they stand for in word only. They do not seem to want to act. Therefore, I do not seem to want to vote Republican any more.

This is my Opus -- not from Free Republic, but from the Republican party. Even when they have the majority, they surrender.

The Republican Party is the France of politics.

Without Bush acting as their backbone the Senate Pubbies would have folded long ago. He is weilding a stick behind the scene. We'll know how big that stick is by what Specter does. If Specter gets in line, you know Bush was kicking him hard.

I wish I could see a video of Bush clubbing Specter like a baby seal.

I think we may agree on more than you think including the borders control. I am for strong control of the borders but I hate to see that this issue is becoming a spring board to attack President Bush and the GOP. The man has enough problems already.

Anyway I apologize for all the personal insults that I made against you and others.

"Americans should never abandon the individual in pursuit of the 'greater good'."

Amen, EV.

This is what makes conservative America great....love, compassion and respect for the individual, absent personal judgement re. right to or quality of life.

Okay, now this is good. Let's try again, and this time we need not be so mutually antagonistic. I tend to give as I get on the forum, and I suspect you do as well. So let's give one another courtesy, and try to argue civilly. :o)

See, this thread was useful after all.

While yer at it, ping some of the others to your post. I'd rather have you on the team than be opposed to you. :o)

I might have to rescurrect my tagline of some days ago:

"Quality of life: Another name for the slippery slope into barbarism."

Exactly right.

Foreign policy has been such a success that it make the failure of his domestic policy and conservative advances stand out like a red headed step child.

That was the point of the thread and what everyone has been focusing on except for the most loyal bots.

Me too.. My friends used to talk about Cable, Sat, Big Screen, Tickets to "the game" or the movies, Concerts, etc.. and how much they paid for these things and how much fun they had. My reply was: I spend $20.00 a month for internet access, and I'm having more fun on FR than you could possibly imagine.

All I got in response were puzzled looks.

LOL...you dog! You know damn well it's easier to divorce from the GOP than from this board.

I think most of us here are GOP by default. I confess I've yet to see an alternative. That is how we got the Toon the other time around. The Left ran those twin idiots of a wooden candidacy twice (00/04) and got more votes than us the first time and over 48% the second time.

Under those circumstances and shifting demographics not in our favor, I don't see how we can field a viable 3rd party.

We have to change the things in the GOP we dislike (for now).

Sorry to wimp out on ya....I'm angry about a few things myself.

I already issued an apology for Lazmataz for the personal insults and I will issue one for you if you felt insulted.

The whole thing that is ticking me off about the illegal immigration and borders control is that it has been used in a "hysteric" ( no insult intended) way to attack President Bush and the GOP. I am totally for stronger border controls and I am totally against illegal immigrants coming here to live on welfare and suck the money for free. And so are all the people that you may call them OBL (Open Border Lobby). I think we really get angry to see freepers attacking President Bush and the GOP in a savage way over this immigration and borders issue. You know how many enemies inside and outside the President has. Inside he is fighting the liberals every minute and outside he is fighting the terrorists and the terrorist regimes, not to mention the political fight against many European cowards and socialists and the impotent UN.

Also there is lot of "knee jerk" reaction going on for every bump we face in the road and there is lot of doom and gloom scenarios being spread around.

Let us make a "real and constructive criticism" if we need to do so for our President and our leadership in the Congress, let us not be obsessed over one single issue, and let us avoid savage attacks because there are lot of important issues as well.

but perhaps you can be shown that this is true when, in 1994, liberals, who found Clinton too moderate, stayed home in droves

No, I can't, because that is not what happened. What happened was low intensity Dem voters stayed home because of Dem scandals in the House, and the tax increase, or switched their vote, and the same scandals and tax increase increased GOP turnout. There is no evidence that liberal Dems failed to show up at the polls in disproportionate numbers of which I am aware. This idea that base voters fail to vote, and vote the party line, rarely is supported by any tangible evidence. It is just a wet dream of some in this neighborhood.
