Lazamataz's Opus: No longer a Republican (Vanity)
Now
| Me
Posted on 04/26/2005 7:27:21 AM PDT by Lazamataz
Well, they went and did it.
The Republicans look like they will wimp out, not exercise the so-called Nuclear Option, and Harry Reid will PERMIT two judges to be approved and disapprove four others. Does anyone think for a second the Democrats won't "go nuclear" in a heartbeat if the roles were reversed?
This seals the deal for me. I am a Republican no more. It seems it does not matter if I vote Republican anyways, all I get is more liberalism. I am a man without a political party. I am a conservative without a home.
Between Bushes enthusiastic embrace of illegal immigration, and our party's inability to get even moderately conservative judges approved, what's the freakin' point of voting Republican any more? What's the point of voting? I will get liberalism no matter how I vote. My main issue is guns, and it appears the Democrats have learned their lesson on that one, so it appears I will be safe on the firearms front. Everything else the Republicans stand for, they stand for in word only. They do not seem to want to act. Therefore, I do not seem to want to vote Republican any more.
This is my Opus -- not from Free Republic, but from the Republican party. Even when they have the majority, they surrender.
The Republican Party is the France of politics.

Good question!!
There is an article floating around News/Activism, but it doesn't say much, IMNSHO.
Per the article, Frist and Reid are still "constantly negotiating," for crying out loud.

Are you sure? I don't buy it 'til all the votes have been cast.Yeah. Yer prolly right.
I think I have a solution: I will simply have an opinion that aligns to what the last poster said to me at any given moment.
There, problem solved.

Naw, I've been as disappointed as anyone else with all this talk of "compromise," and believe me, I share your sentiments.
Again, and I hope I can frame this, I want the Republicans to understand, finally, that they need to drive a stake through the heart of this treacherous political party that dares have us believe they favor "Democracy." For decades they have targeted all institutions of this great nation to serve the needs to socialist views and socialist power. They have used such power to confiscate our wages, allow the murder of infants, press for homosexual marriage, suppress our rights of self-defense, and any other number of actions generally opposed by the majority of the citizens of this great nation.
Their greatest successes have come about because of their successes in controlling the judiciary. I want Senator Frist and the other Republican Senators to strike a death blow to the "Democrat" Party, and deny them their most powerful weapon - the COURTS ! ! ! MERCIFUL GOD IN HEAVEN, grant the Republicans wisdom in this matter - PLEASE!

I'll continue to do all I can by voting straight ticket GOP here in Texas. That is part of the problem. Some of them just ain't worth the effort to pull their lever. Skip some of them once in a while. When you vote for them, it only encourages them.

Yeah, Laz, I know where you're coming from. Myself, I've always cinsidered myself an "independent conservative," well, I'm very, very conservative on social, religious, military, foreign policy and of course firearms ownership although I tend to be moderate on economic issues and tend to be pro-labor and union most of the time, so yeah there are times I tend to be politically homeless. I guess in a nutshell, I consider myself a "Michael Savage/Pat Buchanan" conservative, although in the case of Buchanan, I do think he is "out to lunch" on Israel (I support Israel fully) and on the war on terror and Iraq (I support both).
I did vote for Pat Buchanan in the 1992 and 1996 primaties, Keyes in 2000 primaries and Bush in 2004. I'm kind of schizoid on me leaving the Republican Party, but like you, I'm sick and tired of them snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. I doubt I'll change my registration over it, being registered Republican since 1984 when I turned 18, but they risk losing me on key issues like free trade, immigration and a few other issues. So, yeah, there are times I feel politically homeless, the Democrats are run by a bunch of barking moonbats and the Republicans (generally) a bunch of gutless wonders. I guess if I had to bolt, I'd give looks at the Constitution, Reform, or Populist parties for myself.

Seriously, though: I am RORO'ing, only as a courtesy. If they re-cave, well, they get all that anger and all those defections back.
I'm very glad I posted this thread today, no matter the outcome, for it is clear that I afforded many like-minded people the chance to vent. Additionally, I find that Laura Ingraham penned an article that was pretty much the same sentiment, recently.

I just told a Republican Fundraiser not to call us again until they've ended the Judicial Filibusters. He said they are working on it, so I told them to show me, then call back.

I really don't give a rats patoot what you think. I'm just glad to have been able to give people a chance to express their like-minded frustration. And who knows, maybe people will point Republican leadership to this thread so they can see for themselves just how angry their base has become.
