Lazamataz's Opus: No longer a Republican (Vanity)
Now | Me

Posted on 04/26/2005 7:27:21 AM PDT by Lazamataz

Well, they went and did it.

The Republicans look like they will wimp out, not exercise the so-called Nuclear Option, and Harry Reid will PERMIT two judges to be approved and disapprove four others. Does anyone think for a second the Democrats won't "go nuclear" in a heartbeat if the roles were reversed?

This seals the deal for me. I am a Republican no more. It seems it does not matter if I vote Republican anyways, all I get is more liberalism. I am a man without a political party. I am a conservative without a home.

Between Bushes enthusiastic embrace of illegal immigration, and our party's inability to get even moderately conservative judges approved, what's the freakin' point of voting Republican any more? What's the point of voting? I will get liberalism no matter how I vote. My main issue is guns, and it appears the Democrats have learned their lesson on that one, so it appears I will be safe on the firearms front. Everything else the Republicans stand for, they stand for in word only. They do not seem to want to act. Therefore, I do not seem to want to vote Republican any more.

This is my Opus -- not from Free Republic, but from the Republican party. Even when they have the majority, they surrender.

The Republican Party is the France of politics.

"The Republican Party is the France of politics"

On more: That is so good I'd put money on it that we'll hear Limbaugh, Savage or one of the other talking head radio hosts use it by the of the week.

You haven't mastered that pesky English Grammar thing yet, though.

Keep studying, foreigner.

I'm with you, Laz. I still vote Republican (lesser of two evils and all that), but I would NEVER give the GOP any of my $$ to waste.

Don't give to the Party or to Committees... target your donations to individual candidates - like I did last year. Instead of sending my money to the Republican National Senatorial Committee I sent my money to John Thune (to get rid of Daschle) and to Pat Toomey (to try to get rid of Arlen Specter).

Daer Laz,

Leave already, are you in need of a hug or some feel good validation.

If you are a person of principle then leave the party and spend your time and energy on another organization that has any seats in the house and senate.

Is being thrust into greatness better than being elected into it.

People on the right and left seem not to understand what a political party is. A party is never intended to represent your, my, or anyone else's beliefs.

A political party is a coalition of various clusters of beliefs and the sole purpose of a political party is to get and hold power.

Within the boundaries of the party internal politics defines the platform of the party at any given moment, and that platform (the beliefs) can and will change. Your allegiance to a party is a PRAGMATIC ARRANGEMENT.

I am a conservative becasue of what I believe. I am a Republican in order to get the power to effect what I believe.

So your decision to support or not support the Republican Party should not be an emotional one, nor even a decision which originates from the same part of your personality where your beliefs reside. It should be a PROBABILITY ASSESSMENT: which party is most likely to most enact my beliefs into policy?

The answer to this probability assessment for a conservative at this time, and for the foreseeable future, is the GOP. But it is purely a tactical allegiance.

So relax. Don't think of a party as you think of your family, or your church, or even your hobby group, and you won't need to "leave" what you never really married.

That the Democrats even want to compromise means we must have the votes.

And despite having the votes, incredibly, the Repubs will compromise. In return for giving the Dems what they want (no exercise of the Constitutional Option), the Repubs will get the candidate the Dems want. That's it, snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

When will the Repubs realize they ARE THE MAJORITY?

I would say yes. Greatness is not a popularity contest.

If you are a person of principle then leave the party

I'm teetering on that brink.

You are a self-described 'radical conservative'. You don't feel any disgust at the utter lack of performance by the Republicans?
