Why Is Sin So Bad?
He was wounded for our transgressions. -Isaiah 53:5
|
Pain. Abject, horrible, excruciating pain. Unrelenting, unbearable, unspeakable pain. With each slash across Jesus' back and with every muscle-burning step up Golgotha's hill, our Savior received the punishment for our sin.
In our let's-make-everything-okay world we often look at sin and wonder, what's the big deal? After all, our sin isn't so bad. If we lie a little or cheat just a bit-what's the harm? If we gossip some or use coarse language a few times-whom will it hurt? What's so bad about sin? It's bad because of what it put Jesus through. Yes, our sin was the reason for the torment Jesus suffered as He made His way to the cross-and as He hung on that cross and ultimately died a horrific death. Of course we can never undo what has been done; that pain can never be reversed. Yet we must understand that if we continue to sin knowingly, we are in effect turning our back on Jesus and His pain. It's as if we're saying that it doesn't matter to us what we put Jesus through, we're going to do what we want. To sin in the light of the cross is to tell Jesus that even His intense suffering has not taught us about the awfulness of sin. Why is sin so bad? Look what it did to Jesus. -Dave Branon
See, from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down; Did e'er such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown? -Watts
Jesus took our sin so that we might have His salvation.

"Assassination is not an American practice or habit, and one so vicious and so desperate cannot be engrafted into our political system. This conviction of mine has steadily gained strength since the Civil War began. Every day's experience confirms it. The President, during the heated season, occupies a country house near the Soldiers' Home, two or three miles from the city. He goes to and...from that place on horseback, night and morning, unguarded. I go there unattended at all hours, by daylight and moonlight, by starlight and without any light." -- Secretary of State, William Seward, July 15, 1862
"Crook, do you know I believe there are men who want to take my life? And I have no doubt they will do it.....I know no one could do it and escape alive. But if it is to be done, it is impossible to prevent it." -- Abraham Lincoln to bodyguard, William H. Crook, on April 14, 1865

What Is Alopecia Areata?
Alopecia areata is considered an autoimmune disease, in which the immune system, which is designed to protect the body from foreign invaders such as viruses and bacteria, mistakenly attacks the hair follicles, the tiny cup-shaped structures from which hairs grow. This can lead to hair loss on the scalp and elsewhere.
In most cases, hair falls out in small, round patches about the size of a quarter. In many cases, the disease does not extend beyond a few bare patches. In some people, hair loss is more extensive. Although uncommon, the disease can progress to cause total loss of hair on the head (referred to as alopecia areata totalis) or complete loss of hair on the head, face, and body (alopecia areata universalis).

Friends are one of Life's Great Treasures.
Always around to share your pleasures.
And then close by with things are really sad.
But, I'll never forget the day I met
My friend, Big Smiling Goldie, Greta.
It was my first time outside the house.
Momma said she thought she saw a mouse.
Skulking through the back yard's grass.
Late after midnight the night before.
So, Momma watched as I tried
My first dainty , little Kittie Steps
Into the damp, wide, soft sea of slippery green.
Only to be surprised by the biggest
Thing that I had ever seen!
It galloped close and stopped.
The red ball in its mouth then dropped.
As I stood my ground in it's shadow
Knowing what to do in case it attacked.
"Hi! I'm Greta! It said. "You must be Max!"
Inching the ball close with her nose
"It's such a warm and sunny day.
Let have fun and go play!"
As the ball rolled closer, which I batted back.
Well, batting the ball turned to talking
As Greta batted the ball even further while we'd run.
The daylight hours came and went.
I returned to Momma filthy and all but spent.
Momma eyed me under the evening sky of darkest blue
When I asked just what does Greta do?
"She's a great friend and fearless protector."
Momma said, while delicately cleaning my fur.
"I've known and trusted her since I was a kitten too."
