That is real I have a very similar photo of a field of red poppies. It only happens every few years that the poppies are so dense but when it does happen from a distance it looks just like a field of blood hence why the poppy was chosen from the first world war as the flower for remembrance Sunday because the fields in France looked exactly like this with the blood of the soldiers.

Very interesting commentary on poppies and the WWI. We have an old English travel poster promoting the Great Eastern Railway entitled "The Charm of Poppyland" that pictures fields of red poppies and a strand with beach huts beyond.

Many of the images of poppy fields I've recently discovered are quite beautiful. What's fascinating is that poppy landscapes appear to have been painted more often than photographed.
