This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I can't believe you did that. :~o
I cain't hep maself. :P
I just read your post about Texas. See, you can be factual when you try:')
Good shot, girl!
You see any groundhogs lately?
Looky what the newbie to the thread did:)
Becky
Oh she is so pretty. Do they usually stand that still to be petted at first? I had to call Sarah to see what she said. She thought that it was Lacey. She looked at your white horse and said that's not Sarah Lee".
*runs and hides behind the post button*
I've decided it is less stressful to just let the ferrier call me when he is ready. He still runs early or late though. The call is for a check for the work just finished usually. I know the day but after that I have to camp out in the barn to catch him.
Thanks. I'm going to look at them tonight.
LOL Congratulations. I was going for the dictionary to look up snaig when I saw what you had done.
Old habits die hard. :-D
And some never do:')
That's so true!
Explains why I'm still smoking. *sigh*
I rode him on Sunday and he was great. Rode again on Monday and he was real good. My husband had the 4 wheeler out and he followed it with no trouble. Which brings me to today.
I took him out on the trails and we came to a hill that was not that steep, but he wanted to run down it. He would not stop and I got dumped. He turned around and looked at me as if to say "what are you doing on the ground?" I would really like to know how I can stop him when he takes off like that. I tried the one rein stop and couldn't get a good grip on the rein. It happened so fast I really don't know what happened. I am fine, other than my ring finger on my right hand is all swollen. My husband had to saw the ring off my finger, thats how swollen it is.
I rode him again tonight and he was allright. Needless to say, I do not want to get dumped again.
And YOWCH! I shouldn't think I'd want to be dumped again either!
In the interest of your safety, I'll leave the experienced SC's to give you suggestions on how to stop him.
All I can offer...is this.
Thanks everyone, I think she's pretty cute myself :). Cindy, tell your granddaughter this is Lacey's sister, that's why they look so much alike. Hair, chances of my DIL parting with this baby in the near future are nil. Becky, I think she will grey out like her mother - it would be nice if she didn't, but the dam comes from a long line of grey arabs. Squarebarb, I really like your mare - bring her to us and Sonny will get her bred, he has a way with mares it appears.
Oh dear.
Sorry you got dumped, kudos for getting back on and going on! Glad he stopped and stayed with you. Hope your finger ends up OK.
Now, on to your question... Did you try him on the same hill tonight already? when you say he was 'fine' was that on the same hill? If he wants to rush down, I'd stop him at the top of the hill, go a step, stop, step stop, until he stops trying to rush.
Do you have enough bit? If you couldn't get him stopped, I'd wonder.
LOL Ruthy.
It wasn't a bit of help, was it?
