The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread FIVE

*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Good morning to everyone!

HEY...can the Saddle Club take up a collection of $$$$ to use for burying me???

LOL!

I've NOT fallen over dead YET. But, yesterday, when Markie stopped at the house on Rei, she said she LIKED the way Rei rode.

OMG!!! A COMPLIMENT from that child about MY horse.........UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Good morning all. Sounds like that horse needs some severe work in the round pen. I would never have taken out a horse on trail that had had that little riding.

I pick up "souse". I love it,

A souse loving, shotgunning woman. sigh.........

My granny used to make souse. Man it was good. I was trying to explain souse to a young city slicker the other day. He had never heard of it. I look for it at the grocery store sometimes, but rarely find it.

"The Amazing Yo-Yo Testicles"!

I almost lost my soup to my monitor over that one..hehehe

At the Kentucky Horse Park, there was the sweetest donkey foal. It's momma was at one of the Thoroughbred farms, nursing an orphan foal. A goat was in with the foal. I would have loved to get a pic, but the bars of the stall would have been in the way.

Souse meat is one of those things that, even if I ate it, I wouldn't want to buy at the grocery store, kinda like chitlins. If I don't know who made it and how well they cleaned it, I don't want no part of it. ;o)

I love haggis so would probably like souse meat too!
Jacobs birthday bike got finished at midnight and was a hit! He went of to school a very happy lad. He is having a birthday party this afternoon, and deaconjim was going to do lead rides on Sugar, but his Mama probably wont make the day so hes headed back up to the hospital.
I am going to do my best to make sure the boys have a good party, let them race each other outside on bikes, cook them a great supper, stick them in the hot tub and later on let them watch the incredibles with a big bowl of popcorn.
We are going to have fun.
Mama doesnt know anything anymore, and I know she would have wanted this party to go ahead.
Tuffydoodle, my vet doesnt bring his dogs, but I have 5 so I am sure they will enjoy the treat in July when the colts and lightning get "done"! : )

I sure hate to hear that about deaconjim's Mama. I'll be praying for y'all. I'm glad you're going ahead with Jacob's party. Maybe she'll get to see it from Heaven.

Your dogs will LOVE the warm treat.

I'm sorry about deaconjim's mom. Prayers to your family in this difficult time.

The neurectomy worked. When I got Winnie home she was so excited she got away from me and trotted off, not a trace of a limp.

This horse just needs training (.)

I've come to believe that horses from the age of 2-3 when you first start riding them to about 5 are very good. I really think it's more the exception to the rule, in my limited experience anyway, that horses will break into at that age when you first start riding them, expecially one that's been handled some.

But IME, they do seem to get more flighty, stubborn, and unpredictable from 5-10. It's almost like they turn into bratty teenagers, testing their independence:)

Anyway, this particular horse...I think the owner just climbed on when the horse was 3 and started riding. No ground work. It worked for awhile, but now after a 2 year break, and being in that age of teenager, he's going to be a handful now.

Well Good! I'm glad she's feeling better. A friend of mine had to have a neurectomy done on her gelding and she had a time with him during his recovery period coz he was supposed to just walk when she got him out for exercise, but after being cooped up in a stall for all that time and his feet didn't hurt anymore, he wanted to get away from her and rip and snort.

Hey, the car races are going on and it made me think of your question about rooms at the track. They just said on the news that one condo went for $15,000 for a week. Another condo sold for $330,000.

I think I told you there weren't any regular rooms, like a motel room available. I guess I was wrong, you can get a condo.

Well now that I can get a bed that makes a difference lol. Glad Winnie doing ok. I have been so busy that I haven't been able to spend much time with mine this week. If I can get my butt out of bed in the morning I want to go out there early.
