This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I don't think Lightning is interested in those flirting cows......goodness, I surely hope not! LOL Whatever would come from a tangle like that! LOL
I was determined to plow on and get the bike assembled so I went down to have another try as all the children are in bed asleep. I managed to get it assembled apart from the caliper brakes. No instructions and not a clue doesnt help! LOL Deaconjim gets that to do when he gets in, he was impressed that i managed to put the rest together........i hate to be beaten by something like that! What I don't understand is Why oh Why do they have to pack it in such a tiny box with millions of pieces and instructions that are either for a different product or in greek!
We are getting Lightning, Adge and Thunder "done" all at the same time. I am not sure but I think the vet prefers the young ones to be 5/6 months. He will come here and do them all. Smokey is already a gelding, but still strutts his stuff for the girls! LOL
It's simple. Outsourcing.
It's simple. Outsourcing.
I'm bikeless right now. I bought a bike with a basket , big tires, and peddle brakes like I had when I was a kid. I loved it and rode all around. It's now gone and a few months ago I bought another. I couldn't find a replacement so I bought one of those lower, sleek, 17 gear, hand brake evil machines. It's still sitting in the garage. I got on it one time and no more. I like things simple and still looking for another "granny" bike. Funny the family calls it that when used to be only kids riding them.
That wasn't supposed to double post. I only hit the post button once, I swear it.
Well ,I don't think they expect you to use all the parts. Usually something extra left when we assemble stuff around here.:')
Geldings will do that. So long as that can't do "THAT" well.... thank goodness for the old snipper-roo. :-) We had a gelding that would act VERY studly with "HIS" mare. We housed him in a paddock with a mare and he would charge the fence whenever anyone came near them. Needless to say that tryst ended right quick.
all 3 huh? The vet dogs are gonna be in heaven.
Did you bring Winnie home yet? Is there anything you have to watch her for?
I'm bringing her home this morning. I'm going to try to get in-between all the race traffic. Texas Motors Speedway opening day is today and I have to go past it to get to the vet clinic. Lone Star Park, the horseracing track where the vet clinic is located, had it's opening day of thoroughbred racing yesterday.
The vet said to change the bandage every other day and watch for weeping. Don't want the incisions getting infected, I suppose. Other than that, he said 2 weeks stall rest, 2 weeks handwalking only then 2 weeks of paddock turnout. After that, back to riding.
I take it, you were not there for the procedure then? Hope it all comes out ok, and she is better.
Oh my. It was bad that night I came thru and everything was closed!
Oh thanks! Never been there, just flew over on my way to Kalli. You are welcome to come to Ohio too, but I don't know why anyone would want too..lol Southern Ohio is very nice, but not here in the Northeast part. Dead steel industry. The best part, is our cost of living is a lot cheaper.
Do you have a jenny expecting too?
Good morning.
I'm running late today.
Tuffy, I hope Winnie's recovery is uneventful and that it works.
The neighbor that I was suppose to ride with Sunday, came by yesterday evening on her horse, so I saddled Rocky and we rode for an hour or so. She had not rode her horse in 2 years, Yikes, he was a spook. He didn't like Grizzly running up behind him. He would spin around to see, and some of the trails were a bit narrow for that kind of behavior, he's a pretty good size horse. He also did not like going down hills. He wanted to side pass down them. ONce he backed into a tree and she about got knocked off by some branches on a steep hill. He's about 8 years old, and even before the 2 year break he didn't really get rode much. She raised him and "broke" him. IMO, he's not really broke. She said he tried to buck her off when she got on yesterday, first time he's ever done that.
I also got a call this morning from another lady that told me a year ago she would be calling to ride:). I guess she's just checking to make sure I will still ride with her if she ever decides to come. Who knows:)
I'm off to spend the day with JP. See you all later.
Becky
No, I didn't wait around to watch it.
The car racing traffic is much worse than the horse racing traffic. Those car racing fans are nuts and the roar from the cars on the track is incredible. I live about 5 miles from it and you can clearly hear the roar. I don't know how people keep their hearing that work down in the center of all that mess.
I did remember to ask my vet when I picked up Bob from his "operation" about whether it's better to do them early or to wait until they're older and he said it was really just the owner's preference. He did go on to say that at 6 mths, some colts may not have both testicles descended yet. He also said that on some horses, they are descended at birth and stay that way, but on others they go back up and come down later. That was news to me. "The Amazing Yo-Yo Testicles"! LOL!
My first horse would actually "mount up" and go to town! I was shocked to death the first time I saw him do it. He didn't exhibit any other stallion-like behavior, so I don't know if he was "proud cut" or not, but needless to say, all the mares at the boarding stable where I kept him thought he was "The Man". ;o)
The jenny belongs to my FIL. She's in the adjacent pasture with the cows, but yes, from the looks of her, she's expecting most any time now too. I can't wait. Little baby donkeys are SO cute! Their ears are nearly full size even though their body is small, and with those big brown eyes, they are just ADORABLE!
