*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Duchess, that mare had that foal yet?

Anyone else notice a trend that foals seem to be arriving late alot this year:)? I'm wondering what the deal is?

I think I will refigure Belle's due date.

I refigured. Her ideal due dates are May 8-12, according to the books she could go 20 days earlier or later. With Dot her ideal dates were May 24-30, Dot was born on the 23. Anyone care to guess what she will do....I'm hoping May 7:) I'll start getting anxious past the 12. I figure I'll start sleeping out there about the May 5.

She still doesn't look very pregnant tho. Kristy said yesterday she looks more so then before but not much.

Time to get out the book to see when they start baggin up. I forget:)

Good morning.... busy morning here, Homer has to go to the vets to have his ears looked at... and he is ~awful~ about it. ecurbh and I both tried to hold him down and I couldn't even get a good look inside. They may have to sedate or kill him him to treat him. ;~D

2 to 6 weeks before foaling. I checked to see if I had noted when she bagged with Dot and I did:) April 25, which is 29 days before she foaled, which means if she follows suit she will start baggin April 9 this time:), 3 days for today:)

Maybe... I thought I mentioned it, but you never know ;~D... He's got a yeast infection. Pretty common in labs really... he's walking around flopping his head and they really are itchy and painful. My Lab Logan used to get them too. Based on his reaction to me trying to even look, I don't think it's his first infection, and I don't think he liked the last experience.

I'm not looking forward to treating him and I hope he doesn't get these a lot. I don't know how I'll ever get the cleaner in without sedatives. He may have to come home with enough doggie downers to keep him drunk for the next week. ;~D

Hope he is better soon.

I am hoping I can get him to be better about it. If they put him under and clean them good, maybe I can just manage to get the medicine in for enough days to get him over it. :~D

hope he feels better soon, I just so hate it when animals are sick, a bit like babies, they can't really tell you what is wrong........ : (
Deconjim asked me this morning what I would like for mothers day, I said it would be nice to have the porch swing that was bought for me last year, put up! So hopefully in a couple of hours I am going to have my pretty wicker swing up on the balcony!
I noticed this morning that Adge has really tight curls around his ears! Looks like a poodle there~! LOL

Poor ol' Homer, sore ears are REALLY painful. A local vet almost got her face ripped off working of a St. Bernard who had ear troubles, back last summer. The dog literally tore the skin off her whole chin. It was just a hanging flap down on her neck. Homer's still fairly new to you guys, so you really don't know how he'll react if you hurt him. Just be careful. Good luck!

I got Bob back home yesterday and he seems to be doing fine. He seemed a little subdued, and of course Blade had to chase him around the pasture for a few minutes and have a little wrestling match but they settled down fine after that. I'm glad I finally went ahead and got it over with.

It's storming like all get out here this morning. We're getting the storms that were in Oklahoma yesterday. It's not supposed to get bad though, just lots of rain, thunder and lightening.

We've got another beautiful shorts and t-shirt day. Its 75 out there with a slight warm breeze. The boys are outside playing hard and loving it. The dogs are chasing the boys and the foals are sleeping.
Deaconjim is almost through getting my swing up! It's going to be great to sit out there in the mornings and evenings with a coffee. : )

I'm back from droppin' off Homer at the vet.

I said "I think he has yeasty ears... and he's horrible about it. I think you're gonna have to sedate him." They didn't even look, they just took my word for it and said they'd call when he woke up.

Poor guy.... The mournful looks he gave me...

Good morning, My husband and I were talking this morning about all the mares going late. Farah was two or three days late by her previous foaling times. Dusty, today is six days late by her previous foaling. A friend of ours had a mare go over 365 days this weekend. And the mare is fine, she was palpated this weekend and foal seems to be fine also.

My mares bagged up 3-4 weeks ahead of time. By the way, got an email from another friend last night. His filly (one week old now) had one of her eyes turn blue. :)

Is your colt's eye still blue or is it still changing? How's he doing?

I try to spend most of my Sunday afternoons lying in the swing with about 6 pillows, a stack of magazines and a big glass of iced tea. Half the time I'll have a napping cat on my stomach. It's heaven!

Well, I'm glad. It's easier on him that way. He'll just wake up and they'll be better. I hope they'll be easier for you to medicate too.

I hope so... He's really such a troubled mournful soul, I fear I broke his heart dropping him off there.

My husband and I were talking this morning about all the mares going late...

Now you're depressing me! I was trying to figure up Truly's tentative foal date and I'm just not sure. Her last foal date was 330 days from the first time she was bred and 326 days from the last and I didn't know which number to use. This time she was bred over a period of 7 days, starting on 5/16/04 and ending on 5/23/04. She could theoretically foal next week. She was bagged up this weekend. What do you think?

Yeah, the poor thing. The last time somebody dropped him off, they never came back so I'm sure he thinks that's what's happened again. You'll have to give him lots of lovin' when you get him back home.
