So your point is, we shouldn't be impressed by Bo's
awesome a capella rendition of "Within a Dream"
because he's sung it before?

No, just that part of the sizzle of it was that it was such a dangerous thing to do. People were going, "Wow!" before he even really started the song. I think it affected how people looked at the performance. Do you not agree that it would be much more amazing if he'd never done it before a capella, and I think that's what a lot of people thought-- that they were seeing the debut of this performance?

I don't think that's what he's saying at all. The big deal was all about the "risk" he took by singing a capella. If he has done it before, then it wasn't a risk.

I'm not a Bo fan at all, but I still liked that song. It was the only one of his songs that I cared for, but that's just my tastes in music.

But I'm no longer impressed that he took a big "risk" because he didn't. That's all. Everything Bo sings sounds the same to me. That one didn't, but it wasn't a risk for him at all.

For many, it was a big part of it:

Bo Bice

...

WHY HE'LL WIN: His style ranges from Lynyrd Skynyrd to the O'Jays. Has guts — he sang his last song, "In a Dream," without music.

So, how gutsy was that performance if he'd done it before, probably many times before in previous gigs?
