I heard the first song tonight is country. Carrie's night!
I forget what Paula said the second theme is.

"Country" and "Philly"... sounds like it should be at least half a slam-dunk for Carrie... but not so fast, the results are a bit surprising.
- Anthony -- Anyone who says Anthony wasn't the clear winner tonight needs to get a hearing screening done. He was the only one to come out and deliver "Idol"-level performances on both songs. He also had the best "country" and the best "Philly" song. Despite Simon's comments, I found his second song very convincing.
- Bo -- The lost Allman Brother strikes again. Very unchallenging song selections, but performed well. His first song seemed very "safe" and unexciting... lower in energy (both vocally and physically) than I expect from Bo.
- Carrie -- In my book, she's in trouble tonight, despite Vonzelle's collapse, though I'm sure the Carrie fans will see her through. Carrie should have owned the first song, but instead it was a good, but not star-quality, performance -- somewhat muddled in the lower register. The second song was again not bad, but really not great, and paled in comparison to Anthony doing the same song -- I also noticed a little over-singing here. Failure to shine in her native style and being out-sung on the same song on the same night spells trouble to me.
- Vonzelle -- A tale of two songs, the only saving grace being that it's better to finish with the good song when you screw the pooch on the first, rather than vice-versa. The first song (was that even country?) was a complete and utter mess: pitch problems, tone problems, over-singing... whatever her emotional breakdown was about, it completely manifested itself in this song. The second song was miles better, pitch and tone were back in control, as was the energy, but was it enough to save her? Probably not.

I couldn't get through to Bo's number last night at all. So I tried the other numbers and it answered for Anthony and Vonzell. So I guess I voted for A & V.
As for Bo, he was fairly mediocre last night. His choice of the first song was surprising...I could think of half a dozen better Travis Tritt songs to choose. Does he want to lose the competition?
