"I'm saddened to see that this thread is more popular than the latest news threads"

Are you sure you're not "deeply saddened"?
You know what they say about all work and no play...

My kids went to the Kelly Clarkson concert on Monday. They said it was great.

Meant to mention this the other day, for Clarkson fans: there is a very good interview article about her in the May issue of Texas Monthly. She is also on their cover, looking very grown-up! :)

I'd like to see Bo go. He doesn't sing any better than a lot of guys in SoCal playing at neighborhood clubs.

Actually, there is a singer in SoCal who is extremely similar to Bo in his singing style and tone - Carlos Reynosa. Luckily for Bo, he's more interested in playing at powwows.

I hadn't seen her audition before tonight's show. I thought she (Vonzelle) acted and sounded a lot older during that, compared to her bubbly sweet cutsie self now.

Vonzelle did seem older and more self-confident in that audition, didn't she? I noticed that too. But I am not willing to say that her current "cute" persona is fake. It doesn't strike me that one, for one thing, and also I have noticed through the years that the same person can have many different sides -- it kind of depends on the circumstances. Doesn't mean the various sides aren't real. I was sorry to see Anthony go (I ended up voting for him last night -- my first time to vote for him) but OTOH I was glad that V stayed, solely because that meant I wouldn't have to listen to my husband complain about her going! LOL! I think that big smile and those pretty brown eyes have gotten to him ... :) We have really gotten to the point in the competition now where I honestly don't care who wins. They're all good, I think (despite the contingent who steadfastly maintain that V sings flat, which I must continue to dispute). I think any of the final four would have represented AI well. I hope they all go on to have great careers!

Proof it is no longer about singing.

It isn't about singing, it is about popularity. Votes determine who stays, and ultimately, who wins. The public makes the choice; the judges can help swing public opinion, but ultimately, it is in the hands of the general public.

Just wanted to say thank you, SJ, for starting and maintaining this thread! After a day of reading about filibusters and Iraq and fathers killing daughters, it is such a relief to chew the fat about something fun. And it is such a different take here on the competition from most other sites (with conservative adults discussing AI, for one thing, rather than a bunch of illiterate 13-year-olds). Thank you!

American Idol Gets the Numbers Wrong AGAIN!

Anthony_numbers_wrong_5After American Idol messed up the phone numbers the first time resulting in the first ever American Idol re-vote surely it could never happen again.  After that embarrassing error, American Idol producers surely put some checks and balances in place to ensure that a similar error could never happen again in a million years.  Wrong.  It happened again tonight.  After Anthony Fedorov's second performance, the phone numbers displayed in the closed captioning were incorrect.  As visible in the image above, the first two numbers that appeared were 1-866-IDOLS-01 and 1-866-436-5701, and the last number was Text Vote 5704.

Only the last number is correct.  The first two numbers are actually numbers for Carrie Underwood.  This error only occurred in the closed captioning.  The numbers in the audio and displayed on the screen graphics were correct.

Will this error lead to the second ever American Idol re-vote?  Since the numbers only appeared in the closed captioning it is very unlikely that there were many fans that got confused by this error.  However, as everyone now knows, Fox does not reveal the total number of votes for each individual contestant.  What if Anthony Fedorov gets eliminated?  His fans will never know if he got eliminated by a million votes or by a single vote.  It could very well be that this error could confuse at least a couple people and send some of Anthony's votes to Carrie Underwood.

Also, even though this error might not affect the outcome, it raises even more questions about the reliability of the American Idol voting system.  Obviously, American Idol producers have problems with numbers, and if they can't display phone numbers correctly, then how are we to believe that they can count millions of votes correctly.

Update: Not only were Anthony's numbers in the closed captioning incorrect, but Bo_numbers_wrong_4 the closed caption numbers were wrong for Bo Bice and Vonzell Solomon as well.  As like with Anthony's number, Bo and Vonzell's phone numbers were incorrectly listed as 1-866-IDOLS-01 and 1-866-436-5701, which is the number for Carrie Underwood.  This problem could be more serious than first reported.  Many people view American Idol in large noisy groups and could possibly be watching the closed captioning for the numbers.  These three errors could very well affect the outcome and send additional votes to Carrie Underwood that were not intended for her.Vonzell_number_wrongFrom Reality TV Magazine's blog

Looks like the closed-caption operator intended to copy and paste the numbers, but THEN change the last digit, and then didn't remember to do it after all.

I knew that Anthony would go tonight, I don't think he should have,

I'm not a regular viewer, but I do know that winning Idol isn't necessarily the best predictor of future success. Anthony is very young, definitely has his audience, will be a huge success. We haven't heard the last of him. He'll be much bigger than Bo, who's on the downhill slope to put it charitably.

Whatever happened to Fantasia? Besides showing up on Idol, is she working and selling CDs? I liked her during the contest but haven't seen anything I liked from her since..they've wrecked her by developing her in the wrong direction. I'm not sure what the right direction is for her but this shouting stomping booted Fantasia isn't it. She'd be better as a Billie Holiday.

I give up... it's obvious that at this point, the results have absolutely nothing to do with how the contestants perfrom, but simply about who is more popular

Another "2 kinds of guys" issue: Jennifer or Bailey (the other of course being Ginger or Marianne).

I'm the third kind of guy... I answer "both". (Or in this case, all four!)

But in any event, Bailey was hot!

Oh yeah! She was a pretty girl. I used to love to watch that show in college. It was already off, but we watched it in it's syndication days. Came on at 12 midnight.

Her and Diana Digarmo? were my favorite females last year. George Huff was my favorite male.

Ditto... though George really didn't have the chops, I always enjoyed watching him because he was just filled with joyful, positive energy.

"Don't Cry Out Loud" is on the CD.

I got that track from iTunes, but from the 30-second previews, it sounded like every other track on the CD was a clone of each other.

No, I couldn't make out Seacrest(crummy old computer). But it is real that Franks grabbed the behind of an up and coming Dem. A young gay male, they were at the same event, and Franks copped a feel. Bet his significant other loved that. Franks is a disgusting perv. don't know why his state keeps bringing him back.

I think some people would pay to see that... or did I get that out of context? ;)
