But most annoying of all are his fake hip-hop accent and that deplorable sideways ballcap. Actually, he grew up in a black neighborhood.

The judges selected George Huff (Randy), Leah LaBelle (Paula), and John Stevens (Simon), and the audience vote selected JPL. The judges had them come back after they were voted off? I don't recall any of that.

They do two songs next week. Really? One that they pick and one that the judges pick for them? Didn't they do something like that last year?

The judges had them come back after they were voted off? I don't recall any of that. Like I said, yes and no. After four weeks of semi-finals, they had filled 8 of the 12 finalist spots. They invited back 12 people (from any stage of the competition, though most came from failed semi-finalists) for a wild-card round, and then eliminated 4 of them after rehearsals. The remaining 8 sang, the audience voted. The judges then each picked one of the wild cards to go to the finals, and the highest vote getter of the remaining 5 contestants got the final slot.
I did't watch Season 2, but my understanding is that Clay made it to the finals in a similar fashion.

Hey girl, how are you. about the voting, as with previous years, they have friends/family/whole towns calling in, so to get an accurate vote, well it isn't going to happen. Although my 25 yr old son was saying all along it was Constantines night to go , only because he loves that song he sang and he didnt care for C version of it. LOL i didnt know the song to begin with. I am hoping Bo or Carrie wins, either way they will all get contracts, but not all will keep them.

I think I kind of understand what you are saying but to me I don't get too wrapped up in the stuff prior to the final 12. At that point the real show begins. It is only from this 12 that I pay attention to. I understand how Velasquez left and that brought in a new 12th person. But, that is the only return that I can think of. I didn't watch the first season and only caught the last episode or two of the second season.

I think the real risk now is that each contestant is only as good as their last performance. A lot of people may not be looking at the whole package and are voting just on each night's performance.

Although my 25 yr old son was saying all along it was Constantines night to go , only because he loves that song he sang and he didnt care for C version of it. I think there are several types of voting going on. You have the votefortheworst votes, you have people voting for their favorites, you have those that vote for the best of that particular night and you have those that vote for their favorite thus far in the competition (those that add all a person's performances together and then rank them).
I think the real risk now is that each contestant is only as good as their last performance. A lot of people may not be looking at the whole package and are voting just on each night's performance.

Clay had the misfortune of being in the same group as Ruben and Kimberly Locke. The Top 3 for the whole show was in one small group.

"The judges selected George Huff (Randy), Leah LaBelle (Paula), and John Stevens (Simon), and the audience vote selected JPL."
Leah LaBelle! She was the hottest of the batch last year. Her singing wasn't good, but no one was listening.
I thought Simon would get John Stevens a contract singing old crooner type songs like Rod Stewart is making a killing at doing.
And JPL...John Peter Lewis....the serial killer! (They always have 3 part names.)

No...EJ won't start out (or Al Sharpton) for that matter until next week when Vonzell gets voted off.

And Season 2 did it: Carmen Rasmusen, Kimberly Caldwell, Clay Aiken, and Trenyce were the winners. Clay won the voting and got the automatic bid. Carmen was chosen by Simon, Trenyce by Paula and Kimberly by Randy.

The original set up was that they had 4 sets of 8 and America chose 2 out of each group to go to the finals and then they had a wildcard made up of some of the remaining 24 where 4 more were chosen (3 by the judges, 1 by America). No one gets a reprieve once the finals begin.

I don't know if the judges are involved or not. I just know that they are doing 2 songs because they have to fill up an hour of programming.
