Nice analysis. My only quibble is that I see the final between Constantine and Vonzelle, not Bo. Those are probably the top 3, unless Carrie makes some kind of turnaround, but the guys will still be splitting votes, so one of them goes off at #3.

Mornin', Wolfstar :)

I still think the backstage make-over artists, coaches and such manipulate the candidates more than we realize.

A few weeks ago there was a segment on the local news about AI and how the singers practice, prepare, etc. All the backstage coaches were interviewed and they said that while they give advice and try to steer the singers in the right direction, the final decision rests with the singers themselves. I would assume that this applies to the make-up artists as well.

If Nadia wants to wear a Mohawk, for instance, then that's up to her. They won't force her to change. And if Bo is dead-set on singing "Remedy" then the coaches will shrug and try to make the best of it.

Whether or not they listen to the advice, I guess, depends on how strong the singer's personality is, their confidence, and how comfortable they are with themselves.

The "veteran" performers like Bo, Constantine and Nadia are likely set in their ways and will take the advice and weigh it against their own experience. The younger performers, however, like Carrie and Vonzelle are very new to all this and probably haven't learned to trust their instincts yet--this would explain the sharp changes in Carrie's style from week to week. She's asking for--and getting--too much advice, IMO.

I don't think the plane crash was an actual crash like we usually think about.

I know what you mean. It couldn't have been that bad--I'm talking about the impact, not Paula's injuries--because surely it would've been bigger news. Yesterday was the first I'd heard of it.

I've always been fond of Paula, going back to her "Straight Up" days. Hope she's okay.

BTW, I remember the "Cold Hearted Snake" video--LOL! Lots of unwashed bodies in that one--Constantine would've fit right in :)

No she wasn't.

Too much going on in my life right now to remember the specifics correctly, perhaps, but my point was that they let her walk out on stage with that ridiculous Mohawk. She then sang an awful song horribly, never recovered and was gone shortly thereafter. Before that, she had been one of the favorites to win.

Thanks for all the info on Paula. Knowing all that, now I find kind of sorry for her. She does seem like a genuinely nice person, and she does try her best to encourage the contestants.

I guess you're probably right. The more experienced contestants probably do call more of their own shots, while inexperienced kids like Carrie are probably are more like the ball in a pin-ball machine, bouncing from one idea to the next.

She wasn't awful after the mohawk. While others hated the last song she did, I liked it. As I said before, different types of music appeal to various people. She made some poor song choices in doing off the wall songs, but those that were easily recognizable, like her last one, were done well. She is one of those singers whose voices aren't perfect but they carry it anyway.

I thought the mohawk was interesting. She is her own person and she doesn't strike me as doing something she doesn't want to do. Unlike some people I don't hold what one person looked like one week against them forever.

Sounds like you wanted Nadia to win and you're not too happy she's gone. Personally, I think the girl should try for a career as a model. She's very stylish, has the stick-thin body the modeling world wants, and is quite pretty.

No, I like Carrie to win and always have. That doesn't mean that I couldn't appreciate what Nadia could do with the songs she sang.

Ex-Idol Contestant Claims Paula Abdul Affair

The story is probably bogus, but the thread is hysterical :)

I tried to google up a plane crash and Paula and couldn't find anything. It happened in the early 90's I think.

If it was an actual crash, surely something would have turned up.

BTW, I remember the "Cold Hearted Snake" video--LOL! Lots of unwashed bodies in that one--Constantine would've fit right in :)

LOL! No kidding. That was right up there with some of Madonna's trashy stuff. You're right, that sort of thing would be perfect for Constantine!

Apparently she designs jewelry also, and gives each contestant a "good luck" charm of some sort.

That's nice of her.

Thanks for the post...

I forgot that Paula was "hot" once.

BTW...anyone hear the rumor about Paula sleeping with one of the Idol contestants??

I wonder if that's why Mario quit??

Hi Tony, you are very welcome for the post.

By now you have probably seen the link in 3711 that has the article you were asking about regarding a possible affair.

I don't know that I believe the story, but who knows!

Hey are you hearing the scuttlebutt about ABC suing FOX over AI's practice of pushing one candidate over another? Rush is talking about it today and also Rick and Bubba(local affiliates) discussed it today. What's going on?

Since when did a rumor have to be true for certain freepers to repeat it?

She does seem like a genuinely nice person, and she does try her best to encourage the contestants.

She flew on the same plane as my mom did a couple years back. Paula was in first class and was one of the first ones off the plane, but waited for everyone on the plane and talked to everyone that wanted to talk to her and signed autographs. Very petite, even more so then I thought.
