Very, very, very small doses. Good heavens that was awful.
Ruben also won because I think the audience wanted to see the "fat guy" win.
I think that's what's keeping Slingblade "alive" in this.
My only fear this season is that the fans will "turn" on Carrie because the Judges (Simon in particular) took a huge liking to her early in the competition. I hope I'm wrong.
Absolutely! Fantasia, at her core, is a fine singer. She doesn't need to ham it up the way she did tonight. This was amateur stuff. For anybody that had never heard her sing before, they're probably scratching their heads wondering how she won. "Act ugly" indeed.
Yes, curious. But Clay has had the last laugh. He's been quite successful in the two years since. He also found a sharp lawyer who got him out of the AI contract. Then he signed with one of the hottest agencies in the entertainment business these days. Something called The Firm. That's it. Just The Firm. Then, to top it all off, he got Kelly Clarkson to sign with The Firm earlier this year. Kelly, of course, is the one true pop star to come out of AI so far.
I don't know if we'll be seeing Clay returning on AI any more ... apparently he successfully got out of the 19 contract. Last time he was on (when he sang Earth Wind & Fire's "Fantasy", which I really enjoyed), Simon and Randy made fun of him on some morning show the next morning. It was just classless. So, who's selling out shows everywhere he goes? Not Simon and Randy. I'm very pleased that Clay was able to escape the planetary gravity of the AI machine.
I like Nadia a lot. Her regular band is a Christian band called Toolbox.
Well if that happens, the reputaton of AI will be severly damaged, if not ruined. But Carrie will survive--with her looks and talent, there's no stopping her.
Yes, she sure is. And she seems like a very nice, down-to-earth person, as well. Unfortunately, the so-called black urban music genre -- which includes and rap, gangsta rap, modern R&B, hip-hop, etc. -- is the hottest selling category of music these days. I don't know who buys it, but I sure don't.
I think you're right. Bo has taken a down-turn and Lt. Dan aka:Constant-pain has done much better than expected.
But I think he's still pretty much an average singer and Simon agrees.
His "teeny bopper" fan base keeps him in the running but I think Bo and Carrie will still beat him.
I also think Vonzell is the "dark horse" to win this thing. She could do a Michael Jackson and "come from behind."
Still, my heart (and other body parts) are for Carrie!
Deja vu
Hey, it looks like we just wrote basically the same message!
Me, too. I like Clay. And I'm very glad he convinced my favorite, Kelly Clarkson, to follow him to The Firm. Another former contestant who escaped the AI machine is the ex-Marine, Josh Gracin. His first country album is doing reasonably well, and one of his songs from the album made it to #1 on the country charts.
Yep! I admire the guy for the way he's handled his sudden fame. Kelly, too. I wonder if AI has any counselers there to advise the singers on how to adapt to being a celebrity.
When does AI come on over there, in about 30 minutes?
I hear Josh's auctioneer-type song on the local country station all the time. I know he got snarky with Simon, but I liked him anyway! :-)
I really do like Nadia, but I like satirizing her hairstyle, too. Her clothes are very stylish, and she looks like a Vogue model.
I would like to see Nadia do something real classy -- a great Lena Horne number like "Stormy Weather".
(I am an old geezer. My kids were teens in the 70's and all of them had 'fros, It was a constant battle to get them to the barber shop. Maybe that's why I hate to see that hairstyle popularized once again by Nadia.)
P.S. My sons are all bald now.
LOL! She is a beauty, as well as the only truly natural talent in the competition. If enough adults vote, she may win it all. Alternatively, if the teeny bopper girls who vote for either Bo or Constantine refuse to vote for the other guy when, inevitably, one goes home, Carrie might win that way.
PS - I saw the Kelly/Clay show last year, and it was terrific. They're both naturals, and seem to be grounded young people.
My take on Nadia is that she's a very good preformer. She has a decent voice and is very good at picking the right songs for her voice.
But like Simon says, she's not the best singer in the competition. She doesn't do well with "holding notes," but she covers it very well with her style.
I thinks she got luckey to "bottom out" early on (being in the bottom 3 the previous 3 weeks). She wasn't "low" enough to get the boot (no pun there), and now she can only improve.
I see a big race between her and Vonzell for a spot in the top 5.
Still...she has no "upper body" to show...but they didn't help Jessica so that could be to her advantage.
I'd LOVE to hear Nadia sing Stormy Weather - WOW! That lavender number last night was sensational.
I think Fantasia is maybe listening to the wrong people right now--people that just want to churn out CDs, caring less about the quality of the music. The sooner she gets out of that AI contract the better.
