Constantine will be performing Bohemian Rhapsody on a Queen tribute album
He is working on his own album and expected to have it out in the next few months, possibly at the end of summer (or early fall?), and said that he's trying to do like they did in the 1930's, where performers did a little bit of everything.
He is working on a TV show: "It's gonna involve music, and a family situation... as I move forward with the project I'll let you know... maybe late fall or early winter, one of the big networks." (must have been that acting role in the Crimetime skit...)
That Partridge Family song must have inspired him! Hm, maybe he can get Paula to play Mom? :)
Hope you had a terrific birthday weekend, Jonny!! Sorry I am late to the party as usual, but OTOH, this gives you a chance to brag about the wild party weekend you had! LOL! Ah, to be 31 again ... enjoy it while ya got it, kiddo!
BTW, could you add me to your TAR ping list? I have never watched it but thought I might give it a try, with such congenial company. :)
And Hetty, you've been added to the TAR list :)
Jonny
If you listen closely you can hear Freddie Mercury spinning in his grave.
"... as I move forward with the project I'll let you know... maybe late fall or early winter, one of the big networks."
Pffft. That sounds like something he made up :)
At least it wasn't an Aerosmith or Nickelback tribute album...
Kelly Clarkson will sing the National Anthem before Game 2 of the NBA Finals...
Kelly is up for three Teen Choice Awards: Single (Since U Been Gone), Album (Breakaway) and Female Artist. Voting ends 8/4. Results on 8/16 on FOX...
Carrie Underwood will be singing on CMT's "100 Greatest Duets" which airs in September...
Jonny, did I hear there is going to be a summer TAR or is that something I imagined? Something about one with family teams? If so will you have a thread for it?
There will be a family TAR--that's the thread I'll be hosting--but it won't air until September, or maybe late August. Bummer! I was hoping for a summer TAR, too :(
Well drats! Thanks jonny. I'm glad you're hosting the TAR thread. It was good, but noone posted on it until the show was over. Of course, most were in a different time zone than me.
Ha! That's true. I can still hear Constantine's screeching rendition of "Walk This Way" in my head.
Great tagline, BTW.
Thank you! :) Can't remember where I found it but it is so true. Noticed you've changed your tagline too. Has texasflower seen it yet? Well, I hope you have a wonderful, productive day. I will if I would just log off the computer!!!
Word over on the AI boards is that Carrie's been sick lately and that she's had to cancel some appearances. I think the pace and pressure in the last few weeks of AI competition gets to a lot of contestants. It seems to be common for many of them to get sick either toward the end of a season or immediately afterward.
I'm skeptical about this next bit of info from the AI boards, but will pass it along anyway. Supposedly, Bo's single broke onto the Billboard charts at #60 and Carrie's at #63. The reason I'm skeptical is that Billboard uses actual sales numbers from Nielsen's Soundscan as well as HDD's raw final numbers that come out each Tuesday.
The reason I can't verify this info either way is beause you need to be a Billboard subscriber to see their complete charts. You can only see the top half of their charts on their public website.
When my sister was little she couldn't say Liberace, she called him 'Livercrotchie'. :)
I don't see that at all. I see an impish smile beginning and a twinkle in the eyes. She looks like someone that likes to laugh, have fun and maybe even be a prankster.
Thanks for your billboard posts they are interesting. Did someone say that the version of In Your Heaven that Carrie sings is the one from the end of the show and not the one from the beginning of the show? If so, then in my opinion that is too bad. I kind of like that song and would buy the CD if it were the version from ealier in the show.
Maybe Kelly's three top 40 hits will give her the edge at the Grammys.
I'm not here to tell you that America got it wrong, because in the context of what AI is all about, Carrie did deserve to win. However, what I am here to tell you -- now that I've been able to listen to that performance numerous times on a little cassette tape -- is that Bo's performance of "In a Dream" was literally great. Surpassingly great. By now you all know I'm a big Kelly Clarkson fan, but I have to say that Bo's performance was so far superior to anything ever sung on AI that there's no comparison. It's like me trying to sing opera in competition with with Pavarotti.
There's a gritty quality to Bo's voice and pronunciation that tends to somewhat veil his power and vocal range. But he has power, range, control and superb phrasing. The song is deceptively simple, but it's actually tough to sing -- especially a cappella. It runs through several octacves. I'm not good at judging key (key of B, key of G, etc.), but the melody has a passage sung in the flat version of the key (e.g., B flat or G flat).
But far more than his technical brilliance and vocal power, Bo brought an emotional power to that song that -- at least for me -- echos in the heart long after the last note is sung. It certainly leaves me wanting more.
In an era in which performers get standing O's just for showing up, Bo moved that large audience in a way I haven't heard in a long, long, long time. He did it just standing there with no fancy clothing, no fancy band or backup or staging. Just a spotlight, some grungy every-day jeans and a shirt, a microphone, his voice and his heart.
In an era in which young people think rap is great music (Gwen Stefani's rap song "Hollaback Girl" is currently the #1 single), I honestly don't think many of AI's target audience got that performance.
I wish they would stop doing that. Usually he ignores their 'set up'. I think it is a slap in the face to Carrie evey time someone asks Bo that question. Every time someone asks that question or makes a similar comment, it reminds of the statement 'The Supreme Court handed George Bush the Presidency'. Carrie won, and she did so on her ability. I think her single would be doing better if they had used the version from earlier in the show or used a studio version.
