I had just missed the era
Of Saturday morning serials
Playing in theaters far and wide
Though through re-runs and the magic
Of cheap fillers and the Channel Sci~Fi
I've seen tons of Republic two~reelers
From John Wayne's "Singing' Sandy",
Gene Autry and Hopalong Cassidy
Where the bad guys chase the good guy
Round and round the same huge pass and rock
So it wasn't much of a shock
To see Buster Crabbe as Flash Gordon
In Professor Zarkhov's secluded lab
Ready to battle the Merciless Emperor, Ming
In rocket ships that were 1930s Eye Candy
Though my favorite is less favored and astute
With his Bullet helmet and Leather Jacket~Flying Suit
Without even a holster for his six shooting' death dealer
Commando Cody was my Hero Of The Skies!
