The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

yeah... but yuh cain't eat hermit crab eggs...

And hermit crabs ain't got enough meat on 'em to be worth cooking either!

They are pets with no purpose, that's for sure.

well... mranad is paintin' the new mailbox...

I bought a 18" section of 10" square tubular steel, 3/8" thick... took it to the VoTech welding class (the one I taught before), and gave the class a practical application exercise... the durn thing weighs at least 60 lbs... could survive a nuclear blast... gonna weld a section of chain off the back and drop the runnin' end into 100 lbs of cement...

can't wait fer the next peckerwood that tries to bash it... actually... no, I don't... fargin' bastiges...

That's what we do with the bigger ones. Never thought of having a pet dungeoness though. Unruly little buggers.

Yah... nice solution tho... reminds me... my mailbox needs a rebuild agin. Wood post has gone wobbly. Need sumthing more... permanent...

There's been many reports around our county of mail thieves (ID theft rings) working nearby neighborhoods. Dad installed one of those mailbox alarms that alerts inside the house when the door opens, so that stuff doesn't sit there.

Heard about a nifty mailbox that's selling like hotcakes. Heavy steel, and vault-like, but requires a key to open. Maildude can deposit mail through a one way trap, but to get it back out requires the key.

Maybe not a bad idea, I'm thinkin'.

Heh - all we need is 'probable cause'.

Probably would be a good idea to have a 'safety session' afore turning the young 'uns loose with in the woods with sharp tools and motorized stuff. The paperwork involved with 'accident on duty' is a real pain.

"pay attention, don't want you bleeding all over my woods." :-0

got 'em organized, and supervised... they ain't gonna be all over the woods...

one of the incentives for max participation was gettin' a little trigger time on thenewrange...

the safety brief will be severe... "I'm wearing a sidearm... if any of you lose your mind a point a weapon at another person, I will shoot you dead to protect the innocent..."

I always thought that cutting a watermelon in half with a chainsaw was a particularly vivid visual safety lesson.

Werks with hollow points too... :-)

Reinforces the idea that "things cut off with chainsaws cannot always be sewn back on."
